Every so often on CL we have an RIP, so, I was very shocked to discover this evening that singer and songwriter Kate McGarrigle died last Monday. I am suprised the news passed me by, but this week has been personally a fraught one.
Kate was the mother of Rufus and Martha Wainwright, but a real musical talent in her own right and with her sister(s), particularly Anna. I was lucky enought to see them live on a couple of occasions, and the original Kate and Anna McGarrigal album has been a good companion to me for nigh on 40 years now...it is a really beautiful and moving album, very special, not everybodys cup of tea, but I love it. I had hoped they might play again in London soon, alas it isn't to be, I feel very saddened by Kates passing, but grateful she lived.

Didn't expect to see this on here, but was happy to see it. It was certainly big news here. What a talent...RIP.0
