So i am reading about 3 books at the mo. I started Hooligans 1 the A-L of britains football Hollie firms. Then for Xmas got the second enstallment M-Z. I started reading M-Z as i coouldnt wait and have now gone back to A-L as i only got as far as Derby county. So i just wondered if others on here have read either these or other better titles. Iam alos reading the Football hall of fame at the same time and am loving all 3 books cant put any of them down and i have been very quiet at work since re starting Holligans A-L.
There will no doubt be some of you on here who wonder why i enjoy reading about these books it is simply because i find it all very interesting as i was not old enough to see the seveties and eighties not because i want to be one. As you all know i am probably the least violent person on here. Just wanted to see if others share my interest.
I also enjoy travel books and have read all of the Palin ones anyone else on here read any travel books too??

Ru have you read the Michael Palin book where he travels around all the clubs in England on matchdays having it toe to toe with their top boys at every stop? Highly recommended.
Always took the other firms by surprise as no one expects the Spanish Inquisition.
Or even read Michael Palin's books about his epic journeys round the world, the places he's seen, and the local people he's met? ........ there's a big world out there, and some wonderfully warm people to meet.
Go travel and live off your wits for a while.
;o)
He wasn't at the Country Ground at Swindon.
You know he was top boy at Wednesday Henry, stop taking the Michael.
Funny what you hear innit.
never read it, is that an under the counter one?

the one where he travels to halifax and chibs their top boy is a classic
Good books he does, 'Join Me' in particular. And 'Are You Dave Gorman?' was very funny.
I remember the 'Clash of the titans' as it was billed - when Sheff Utd played Yeovil whose firm is headed up by Danny dyer
palin vs dyer = pwopa nawty
[quote][cite]Posted By: North Lower Neil[/cite][quote][cite]Posted By: ValleyGary[/cite]Back to the books theme, im reading 'Friends like these' by Danny Wallace at the moment. Really like his stuff, and if you havent heard of him before, pick up a free 'Shortlist' on a thursday in London. He does a weekly piece in there.[/quote]

Wasn't a bad winger too, when he was at Southampton! ;-)
I much prefer Dave Gorman. Can't believe Wallace has somehow become more successful. His ShortList column is rarely funny.
Iys not FOD its just a hobby and interest of mine. The Journalism thing is going well thanks i have had lots of replys to e-mails i sent out advising me of how to get into it. I have had encouraging feedback and am continuing to research it as we speak thanks guys.
Down Under is even better. I love Bryson.
Another good travel writer with football (Middlesbrough) connections is the excellent Harry Pearson- "A tall man in a low land" I particularly enjoyed.
I have read Terrace Legends, because someone gave it to me. It was exactly as I expected, a bunch of middle aged men who have made nothing of their lives (other than the compiler, Cass Pennant) reliving their "glory days". None of them ever lost a "tear up" unless they were hopelessly outnumbered, and none of them ever hurt a bystander...
Utter cock.
Ive never tried Gorman. Wallace's books are quality tho.
I bet the Terrace Legends never went looking for trouble either, just had to defend themselves ; - )
Check out both the TV series and book "Are you Dave Gorman?" - the series is presented by Gorman and the book is co-written by he and Wallace.
I think Down under is his worst. Just goes to show how varied peoples opinions are. Would love to go for a beer or two with him though.
Agreed, all great books.
I have read both Terrace Legends and Top boys and your right apart from Cass and Bill Gardner they all chat about how they have never lost a ruck and generally just big their own clubs up and dam everyone else. However the two Hoolidga A-L and M-Z boooks are allot more informative and take a much more non biased view of the whole situation. The authors are Nick Lowles who i never herd of before these books and Andy Nicholls who is a former Everton lad but they both seem to have better vocab and non biased vies i found. I am reading Everton now and Nicholls is defo not biased in their favour.
