  • 20. When you have left a room, It is a criminal offence to leave the light on in Brighton.

  • 21. Went down to Brighton on the infamous League Line in the 70's (still have the ticket) which went diectly from Charlton to Brighton.
  • 22. In the late 80s, the dance hit 'Brighton Time' became a cult hit on the Brighton club scene but a local group called Hovis. However, wanting to appeal to a wider audience, the record company changed the main lyrics to 'Ride on Time' and on the basis that Hovis consisted of freaks and a munter, the song was offered to a more appealing group, Black Box.
  • 23. Brighton is home to the annual Soap Box Derby. A competition held every year to contest who can build and race the fastest soap box in town. Familys from across the south coast flock into town to see their local hero's. However, last years competiton was marred by the fatality of crowd favourite John 'whizkid' Mcdermot, who, whilst leading the race, failed on his brakes and run straight onto the pier and off the otherside. McDermot was never seen again.

    Who else was on the train back from Blackburn a few years back (2002 ish?) along with Bodger who was handing out signed photos!? Lot's of middle-aged football fans singing Bodger and Badger whilst waving their signed pictures about. Bizzarre.

  • 72. Brightons most famous musical export is The Brighton And Hove Albion men (The Baha Men).
    The Baha mens most successful hit 'Who Let the Dogs Out' can still be heard (just about from the away end) sung at most home matches.
    The song was started when referee, and part time farmer Joseph Dingle accidently mistook his referees whistle for his dog whistle at the match v Tranmere in 1953, the whistle to signal the start of the game attracted a number of the local canines who chased the referee from the pitch and the game had to be posponed.

    The re-arranged game was also posponed due to a local rumour that there was due to be a pitch inspection on the morning of the game which never actually took place. This game was known as the Fake Tranmere Posponment (Or F_T_P).
  • Brighton has a layer of small, polished rocks known as pebbles that seperate it from the sea. The so called pebbles make a very satisfying noise when walked upun and all manner of fun can be had throwing them at the aforementioned sea.
  • Brighton and hove were the first council to allow same sex marriages, the first ever cermony was held on july 6th 1996 between a mr bishop and mr morley who are still happily married and own a cake shop in rye.

    Apparently they are renouned for their "Turnovers" ; )
  • 75. One of Brighton's former mayors, John Corncake, sparked controversy in 1983 when he failed to appear at the welcoming ceremony for the civic delegation from Schnittelheim-am-Rhein, with whom Brighton is twinned. The famously short-tempered dignitary sent as his replacement a small child dressed as a spider.

    Charlton to Brighton league liner still have ticket ,so do i did not help on way back ,as the train went from Brighton to Woolwich Arsenal not stopping at Charlton.
