The lad got himself sent off. First with an act of petulance when he didn't get the foul and secondly when he knew that another stupid foul might get him a second booking.
As for Rooney as soon as he got injured again he should have been hauled off. He literally could not run from that point onwards.

Agree totally AA. From the moment he was injured MU were playing with 10 men.

Considering they went 3-0 up it was hardly proven to be a stupid gamble, the problems were at the other end. He probably should have come off at half time though

Can't agree...bottom line is they lost and he aggravated the injury. You can couch it whatever way one wants Sussex.....they lost.
Agree though that he should have been subbed at half time if not sooner.

Well technically, they won.
In any case, the fact they went out doesn't make every decision prior to the game wrong. I personally think it was the right decision to play Rooney and that was to some extent borne out by the fact he's in the team to help the side get goals, and they got goals. That isn't changed by Rafael getting himself sent off.
Would starting Berbatov (who was useless when he came on) really have given them a better chance? Or if Robben's volley hits the post does the decision to play Rooney suddenly become the right one?
Hindsight is all well and good but all a football manager can do prior to a game is make a decision that gives his team the best chance and I think he did.

What!!!!
Heh.
Told Ya.
Fergie ''Their players surrounded the ref trying to get him sent off. Typical Germans''.......lol, is that allowed??!

I wonder if he'll use the same excuses in future season as Wenger has for years about having a young, developing team yadda yadda yadda
