Dean Kiely has been installed as Albion’s permanent Goalkeeping Coach after a successful trial this season. The former Charlton Athletic and Portsmouth stopper has been working as a player/coach since Joe Corrigan retired at the end of last season.
The 39-year-old, who has also extended his playing contract until 2011, has impressed in the duel role and hopes to improve as a coach after turning down other opportunities away from The Hawthorns.
"I got asked to do the dual role at the start of the season," said the former Republic of Ireland international.
“We've used between now and then, one, for me to have a look and get a feel of it, and, two, for the club to have a look at it.
"Both parties are extremely happy with the ways things are going.
"I'm certainly comfortable doing the role and I want to do it correctly and properly.
"The fact I'll be doing the coaching and still retaining my player status is perfect for me.
"It gives me something to get my teeth into and plan a vision of how I want to do things in the long run in terms of goalkeepers at the football club - and how I think they should be regarding their traits and personality."
Kiely’s main role this season has been to train and work alongside club captain Scott Carson. The England international still has an outside chance of making Fabio Capello’s World Cup squad with Kiely a big fan of his teammate’s talents.
"If people want to give me a phone call they will only get a glowing report from me because I think Scotty is an immense goalkeeper.
"He's been in the England system.
"People know what he's about and people with England have seen him at close quarters.
"He's playing every week and, for me, doing extremely well.
"Why can't he be on that list for the World Cup?"
"I think Scott has been fine.
"This is a level he can easily play.
"As a keeper at West Brom in the Championship you are not going to make a dozen saves every game and be the busiest person on the pitch, just for the simple fact, we are a strong side in this division.
"That showed the other time we went up as champions under Tony Mowbray and I played.
"All the little things in terms of communication and how you work with the back-four probably go unnoticed.
"But they don't go unnoticed by me because I know about goalkeeping.
"I think Scott has been good.
"The good thing about him is he's never just happy with what he's got.
"He's always looking to expand and push on, which fits perfectly with me, because that's exactly what I want.
"We both want to raise the bar.
"Our working relationship is perfect.
"He is the best goalkeeper in terms of all-round character and personality that I've worked with and I've found it a pleasure working with him."

Pulis when negotiating a new deal will have had the upper hand telling the chairman how things were going to be from now on - football structure, which coaches are coming in, a transfer budget of sorts as well.
From what I understand having heard something on 5Live the other day anyway.
