I wonder what the possession was just for the 2nd half? 85/15%?

Quality Afka. Just at a quick glance, looking at the player ratings Youga's score is quite an achievement. I for one was highly disparaging of him last season, rightly so for his aberrant meanderings, but I think a lot of people were as well. Most of us started off pre-disposed to score him low, so it was quite an achievement when he started getting plaudits. I think it's fair to say when he got injured he was one of our better players, although I think Borrowdale makes our back four a lot more stable defensively.

Great stuff as usual, Danny - must be a mega spreadsheet by now!!

Youga did well particularly as he had a poor start to the season in terms of other players. But because the overall performances of the team was good in those matches, he wasn't punished as severely by those marking. Had the bulk of these appearances been in the 2nd half of the season, i'm pretty sure he would not have scored so highly.

He has 6 'top 3' ratings from his 18 appearances, with the full list of his match rankings in comparison to other players as follows:

    Wycombe H - 11
    H'pool A - 11
    Orient A - 11
    Walsall H - 11

Great work. Very interested to note how important Bailey has been to us according to the stats at least. Top MOM awards at 7.5 and second top scorer. Has most goals from open play I assume what with Burton having scored some pens. Hope some of his fiercest critics read this.

I'm mixed on Bailey in terms of the stats.

Clearly the most MOM awards, yet features in the 'top 3 rankings' less than Semedo and Burton, despite more appearances. His last eight appearances have registered the following rankings: 7, 7, 4, 8, 4, 11, 9, 10, while at the start of the season he did not register a top 3 rating until his 9th appearance.

This may have been reflected by knocks he may be carrying, but he has scored poorly at both the start and end of the season, whilst being our strongest performer during the middle section.

It is clear though he scores higher when playing in the central berth.

His goals from midfield have been crucial, and due to his combatative and energetic style of play, i think when he does have a good game its a lot more noticeable than other players (the Johnny R effect), and will normally result in him getting MOM for those games.

He has registered 13 'top 3 rankings' in 39 appearances, and got MOM / joint MOM in 8 of those 13.

Not surprised, but what position have his goals come from? Last season at least he scored more playing on the left, and we were playing better as well.

This was interesting for me. We clearly do so well to stay tight and keep teams out early on, so what goes wrong in the 15 minutes before half time?! Do we just switch off, or do the opposition change something once they work us out?

But just because other people have a different opinion, doesn't mean I have to agree with it! :) I certainly haven't made him man of the match on 7 occasions.

I wouldn't put myself in the 'fiercest critic' bucket, I just feel that given his goal record last season he would really push on and look a cut above this league. That's not too say he's been bad, I've just been a bit disappointed. Perhaps peoples' expectations of him have been too high?

the same stat was true of last season but on a much much worse scale (hopefully AFKA still has it somewhere).

It was ridiculous that substantially more than half of our conceded goals were in the middle third of the game. Seems we have a problem in the run up to half time and immediately after it

Surprised Dailly isn't closer to the top of the average ratings list - imo he and Semedo have been easily our two most consistent players. Others have had more stand out individual performances but for sheer consistency you'd expect Dailly's score to be higher. Perhaps another who suffers because his best work is often done by taking up intelligent positions and reading the game well, the kind of stuff that is less notocable from the stands relative to someone like Smodje who just goes and attacks every ball.

That does play a part but for me Dailly was playing well early on in the season, and had some poor games in the middle. Recently he's picked his form back up, to me he has looked more convincing in the air, being that little bit more aggressive when needed, not making as many mistakes when he has the ball etc.

He's done well to play almost every league and cup game, shows just how fit he is. I bet if you look back to comments from August to October there will be a few "Dailly can't be expected to play every game at his age".
  • Options
All players have a dip in form a some point though Scoh - has Dailly had more poor games than anyone else? The only game I saw him have a properly tough time was Millwall at home (I wasn't at the away game) and he made a bit of an error at home to Gills for one of the goals. Other than that he's been the definition of a Steady Eddie with a few very good games sprinkled in for good measure.

Can't remember exactly who it was, might have been Scott Minto, but I remember an ex West Ham teamate of his
saying earlier in the season that Dailly was one of the fittest players he'd played with - a real trainacholic. I don't think any of us outsiders expected him to be a near ever-present, but I'm not sure anyone who knew him as a player would be shocked to hear it even at 36. Reckon he's got another 30+ game season in the tank yet and could be useful which ever division we're in next year, especially if we get the right partner in although Smodje is good at this level imo.

Put it this way, of all our players he's the one I worry most about having to do without.
  • Options
I do agree and yeah I never expected him to have no bad games, certainly hasn't had many terrible games. He just had a few, in statbank terms, 5.5/6 games where he wasn't as good as he had been. Still solid enough.

You're not the only one that would worry if he was missing, Sodje and Llera together would worry a lot of us.
