    I never understood why Eltham was staunch Labour and Welling staunch Conservative when they're so close they might as well be the same town? Strange to think attitudes differ to that extent over only a few miles.
  • Think you will find it has a lot to do with social housing chunes. There is not much in welling, people have worked to own a property there. Social housing residents tend to be labour supporters as they are always looking for their next hand out and know which party helps the feckless the most. Hope this helps your socio-economic/political understanding.

    Not sure Eltham is that stauch Labour as I looked it up when the election was called and apparently it was Tory up until 97.
