More good news from Barking - BNP Wiped Out

The British National Party, who were aiming to take control of Barking Council and for Nick Griffin to at least come second, have taken a terrible kicking.

Lost ALL 12 of their seats in the council and had a lower vote than the last council elections.

Shows that the BNP vote in the last election wasn't, IMHO, about supporting the racists but a protest about being ignored.

Good news to start the weekend.

See you all at Oldham, we can do it.

  • Billy Bragg will be chuffed!
  • Fantastic news. I'm literally overjoyed that they didn't get a single seat in the entire country. Well done Britain.

I loved the Glasgow election result as well, where they all booed at the BNP bloke - who then, like a complete moron, put up the Churchill 'V' sign! I was thinking... Not quite mate.

  • Good news in my opinion. Hodge gets an increased majority.

    Others will disagree

Sunk by the time we are automatically promoted.................
  • Good news indeed.

563,743 voters is far too many still though. Makes them the fifth most popular party in this nation though. More voters than the SNP and almost the same number of votes as all the NI parties all together.

What would that translate to under PR ? I make it 13 seats (2% of 650 seats).
  • not to pish on the fire but a reporter on bbc london said it was unheard of that a party would take all the seats in one council and that the result seems strange, the BNP are calling foul and want an investigation.

seems like sour grapes to me but i suppose all 12 seats going labour is odd considering they have been loosing seats all night

    that is shocking
  • To stand as a candidate in the UK election you must lodge a £500 deposit. If you get less than 5% of the vote, you don't get it back. The BNP is currently down £130,00

    :-)
  • What great news this is.

They may have been losing seats in Parliament but certainly weren't losing council seats.

The BNP crying electoral fraud. Laughable.

    lab 36
    tory 13
    lib dem 2

    now
    lab 39
    tory 9
    lib dem 0

with a recount going on in the remaining ward.
