In 1994 South West Water was fined £3.5m for long term pollution of the water table.
This pollution led to a strange phenomena in the 70's and 80's whereby a high number of females were born with particularly large mouths.
This is evidenced by Billie Piper and Melinda Messenger
There is a feral flock of budgies in the main park in Swindon. They have been known to swoop down on unsuspecting members of the public and cause multiple injuries. victims have likened the attacks to resembling a "3d technicolour version of 'The Birds'"

Home to the Museum of Gods Wonderful Railway plus Swindon began as a Saxon village. The name Swindon is derived from the Saxon words swine dun meaning pig hill or the hill where pigs were bred.
The name Swindon is said to derive from "Swine's Town". In bygone years, pigs were allowed to run through the streets to celebrate the coming of the 5th New Moon of the year. The words "Swine's Town" appear in a poem by Keats -
Fill for me a brimming bowl
And in it let me drown my soul:
T'were pigs are running up and down
And soon shall fill Swine's Town
Libraries in Swindon check out more books on Ancient civilisations than any other town in the UK
Swindon has the highest number of green eyed people in the UK. This is thought to be due to the large number of Irish builders who came to the town to build the railways in the 1800s. Most came from Galway where everyone has green coloured eyes.
Nathan Prior applied to live in Swindon but was turned down as they said they already had a village idiot who didn't understand how "things you never knew about...." threads worked. ; - )
Swindon Town Football Club is the darkest club in England. The light is so bad in Swindon, due to sun spot activity and the shadow cast by Bristol City, that Swindon were one of the first clubs to introduce floodlights. The current floodlights are so powerful they can be seen from space.
The pig thing about the name above is clearly nonsense. The name originates from the early 18th century itinerant tarmac gangs that settled in the area. They refered to their badly paved home town as Swindle Ham. Subsequent bastardisations led to the site town becoming know as Swindlethem and eventually of course Swindon. Decendents of the original gangs still account for over 95% of the population.
Swindon is a popular centre for large businesses to base their national logistical and procurement operations. The business I work for bases ours down there and I will, coincidentally, be making a short, very low profile visit on Friday afternoon.
According to the Concrete Society. Swindon contains 7,347,266 paving stones. According to a Personal Injury Specialist 18,924 are cracked and dangerous (and you can download maps of their location from their website www.tripandsue.co.uk)
