Zidane Headbutt

From last World Cup.

Just saw a show on BBC3 with World Cup controversies. They said "the authorities" wouldn't let them show the actual headbutt, so they showed the chat beforehand, then cut to black and cut back to Materazzi falling over.

Anyone know what the story is with this? Is it banned? If so, why?

    What does feels strange is this was 4 years ago. Didn't take long before there were clips and jokes all over the internet (and TV, was even on Family Guy)

    Crazy. Like the FA won't allow Cantona's kick on the Palace prat to be shown. Bloody nanny state.
    Everything is available somewhere though if you really want to see it.

    It's not actually banned...I guess they simply think it as being a somewhat unsavoury incident (which it was of course) and don't wish it to be repeated for a new generation of kids to mull over.

    Then why give it pride of place as "number 1 event in world cup history" show everything right up to the headbutt and everything afterwards? Earlier in the show (fairly late at night, by the way) was an American player urinating in the dugout and Rooney standing on Carvalho's goolies.

    It just seems strange to me, and I can't see how it'd be that harmful to show

    it cant be to do with the violence of it, much worse things are on tv all the time

    I just remember watching it and it ruining that whole World Cup for me. I desperate for France to win so Zidane, probably the best player in my lifetime, could go out with a bang and to do that just ruined it for me, so disappointing.

    I saw this, probably the French have banned it because it was such a poxy head butt, what bloke nutts a another bloke in the chest??

    If he had caught him fair and square on the face and sent his nose into row Z it would have been a classic.

    What i want to know, is that the guy who does correspondance from italy. The bald guy, said something about an incident that happened when Lippi was in charge of Juve, so he told matterazzi to mention it to him and he went mental.

    I don't know about the Juve rumour, but the above are the two stories that have been reported.

    The strange thing is that they showed "the chat beforehand". If I remember rightly this wasn't shown at the time and there was a lot of debate as to whether or not something racist had been said.

    Seemed to me that he was implying that Ribery wasn't the first French footballer caught with prostitutes when he shouldn't have. Or that Justin Fashanu wasn't the only gay footballer. Could be barking up the complete wrong tree though.

    Great show btw. Well worth a watch

    i think it was more to do with censorship. we're quite strict here in the UK about showing head-butting. any movie that features a headbutt automatically receives at least 15 rating in the UK. there has been a few movies where headbutts where cut out of the uk versions of them to avoid receiving 15 ratings; star wars Episode II and Spider-Man 2 are two that spring to mind.

    Saw Zidane play and he was a real gent of the game, Mazeratti (talk te me) apparently deserved it and ZZ got a hero's reception back in France a week later. All a bit contraversially classy and something England would never parallel as a football nation [Beckham 1998]. Zidane was a genious and the only one I have had the privilege to see play; which is a shame.
