North Korea tried to get around the squad limit for the World Cup by sending an extra outfield player instead of a goalie, but FIFA say no. I reckon he'll be mysteriously injured soon.
F***ing stupid rule. Its either 23 players in the squad, or 22 plus a second reserve goalkeeper. Another idiotic fifa rule.
What happens if England send David James on for some extra height in the box if they're 1-0 down with five minutes to go in extra time, score and end up going through on penalties? Or if a team has a goalkeeper who takes free kicks (like Chilavert used to). Can the opposition protest that he wasn't a proper goalkeeper? Stupid rule.

Whats so hard to understand?
It's utterly preposterous meddling with the Laws of the game. Any player is allowed to take the field as a goalkeeper, as long as he hasn't already taken part in the game, he's properly attired and he declares his position to the referee. It's completely ridiculous to have a stipulation that certain players are only ever allowed to take the field in a certain position. Any team should be allowed to field ALL their "goalkeepers" if they want to. Or to pick a squad of 23 strikers and give one of them a different shirt at the start of the match.
Thank goodness FIFA were never in charge of Charlton games when Steve Brown was playing.

Surprisingly tricky for the hard of thinking as Cascarino proved recently. With 22 players countries started wanting to take just two keepers - so FIFA responded by allowing an extra goalkeeper to be taken as part of a 23 man squad. 16 years later and it's WA WA WA FIFA IS RUINING OUR BEAUTIFUL GAME. FFS TEAMS USED TO PLAY WHOLE SEASONS WITH 15 PLAYERS. WHAT DO PEOPLE WANT TEAMS TO TAKE 41,364 PLAYERS AND BE ABLE TO RE-INTERPRET ANY RULES THEY LIKE ON THE EVE OF THE TOURNAMENT ON THE BASIS OF WHAT DER SUN SEZ???
