England Flags

Seem to be more prolific than ever, although I'm not so sure this is enthusiasm for our world cup team or something else.

Anyway I saw this house in Welling not too far from welling corner, they guy had painted the whole side of his house white with red cross going through it. Anyone else seen it?

Personally thinks it a bit chavvy but its individual taste I guess.

  • I put it all down to a certain Steve of the North Stand.
  • Fair play to him i wouldnt do it becuase after the WC (when everyone hates England again) what a tit he will feel well i would anyway.
  • and too right too

more people should be flying the Flag be patriotic and not ashamed to be English

I'm not sure its about being ashamed, just some people don't choose to show it the same way. Perhaps we can compare it to christmas lights? Call it over flagging maybe?

    :)

    *shakes head and walks away*
  • Henners, I think he's right - the enthusiasm will wane once we blow it in the knock out stages on penalites (as per usual)

    :)

    Who will hate England again?

Don't see the big deal, it's not chavvy, it's showing support. Plenty of little cafes and shops around London have their nations bunting flags up, Algerian, Greek, Portuguese etc all adds to the flavour of the world cup.
  • not against the odd flag or even bunting, but it is possible to overdo it - but as I said its about personal taste
  • Love seeing all the flags, just wish people would buy St Georges which don't have 'England' written across them, no where else defaces the flag like that

Im not saying its chavvy the flags are fine and even painting your house is fine (i dont live there so why should i care) i dont mind what he is doing i am just saying that during the WC everyone is very pro England but after we are knocked out and all the flags are down most people will only see the bad things in the country again like they have for the last four years and not focus on the good things about our great nation. So i personally would feel a bit of a tit having painted the flag on my house that means that for the next how ever many years he lives there.

I love England but England is not it's football team. I will still love England regardless of it's football team. I won't love it anymore if we win the World Cup.

I love England (the country that is) all the time, not just every 4 years.

Shame that some people can't understand that distinction.

    Was thinking the same
  • i think there's more of them because of that (not true) rumour about them being banned

everyone's thought "I'll show them" and upped the patriotism a notch or two.... just as the right wing nutters who start these rumours will have wanted
  • I think a lot of people who feel bad about putting up flags up on st georges day can during the world cup fly the flags without fear or attack or unbelivalbly deemed rascist. Its a sad sad state of affiars but I've got a car flag and bought a big st georges cross today, all I have to worry about is getting the mrs permission to hang it up outside!!!! Come on england!!!

If only everyone thought this way Henry. I love England regardless of what happens too but you and i are not the majority of the country. Interesting that when i went to Morrocco earlier this year there were flags everywere and are all year round regardless which is good everyone is proud to be Morroccan. In England there are some places were you see flags up all year round but they are very few and far between i just think there is no reason why we all should not be proud of our country afterall we have allot more to be proud of here than they do in Morrocco. Just an example i thought of.

  • Oooops that quote diddnt really work it seems i am quoting myself?? Not sure how i managed that :-)
  • I think our newsreaders should have an England top on at the very least!
  • Should be fun when northstandsteve reads this thread!
  • maybe the newsreader thing is linked, something about British reserve? Anyway we live in a relatively free country where you can choose to flag wave or not in whatever guise. Personally not big into it myself, and some who do it are little Englanders, however some and probably most are just supporting their national team.

I bought something from a Sports company and with my purchase I received a free St Georges cross flag - with their company name and branding accross the middle !! Surely there's something against that !!

There's a street in Eltham (one of those streets off of Eltham Hill) and all the houses have St Georges bunting going accross the road from one house to the other, looks pretty cool.
  • My house is going to be covered in the cross of St George by tomorrow evening.

    Don't do car flags though.

Leave that to the Millwall Chavs in their 2nd hand BMWs.
  • trust you to bring down the neighbourhood of FalconWoh (old saxon name)
  • yep - will get my flag on the front of the house saturday morning

fingers crossed the weather is nice as planning a bbq in the afternoon...
  • In some USA states you can fly any flag you want as long as you also fly the Stars & Stripes from a higher position.

Excellent combination of freedom and patriotism.
  • Will send a tree round for you to hug Razil
  • I put charlton st george up in the nippers window at the front and the wife insisted I take it down..
