Avram Grant - New West Ham manager

Am i the only one struggling to see this one working out ?

I don't really get what Grant is all about. He seems to have landed decent jobs in the past off the basis of contacts. He just doesn't seem to have the charisma needed to manage in England, and i certainly can't see any form of rapport being struck with West Ham fans.

Huge decision by Gold and Sullivan and i will be surprised if it will prove the right one. West Ham ties and history only carry you for a limited timeframe over there, as Curbs will tell you.

Comments

  • A bit harsh - he took Chelsea to the CL final a few years back - and but for a missed penalty he would have won it. Ok so he inherited the Chelsea side...

He took Pompey to the FA Cup Final this year.

Ok he isn't Mr Charisma, but it seems he works well with the players under his control and has had some success without splashing laods of cash around. Or maybe he's just a good mate of Pina Zahavi...
  • He reminds me of Sven to a certain extent, has bee successful but i struggle to see ingrained 'footballness' in them.

Perhaps that is where we have been going wrong in this country all along. Too much focus is put on the attributes of managers when at the end of the day, it probably don't have as much impact as we think.

Is that the excuse you trot out to your Sunday team then when you lose ? :-)

Never my fault when my team loses Ketters, after some defeats my team thank me afterwards for keeping the defeat to such a narrow range through my tactical nous and motivational skills.

In a recent interview for HAIR WEEKLY, Red Army SE7 named me as the most inspirational person in his life. Still didn't stop me naming him sub though, tough love that boy needs.

    :-)

Agree with this. I think the Pompey players all wanted him to stay as well.
I'm sure Gold and Sullivan have done their homework and when at Birmingham they always made sensible managerial choices (Francis, Bruce and McLeish) so i don't see why it won't work out.

    Grant is a good manager.

He got a raw deal at Chelsea and did very well under the circumstances at Pompey.

He is not a celebrity manager, just a good football manager.
  • Well as you are all aware, i know everything there is to know about football, so let me tell you all now, old Avram is going to flop at Wham.

And i'm sure in no way will anyone resurrect this thread in 1-2 years time when Wham win the Premiership !

Curbs isn't exactly Mr Charisma either.

    Curbishley, Curbishley, Alan Curbishley
    he's got no personality
    Alan Curbishley :-)

I think Avram may do well. But I'm on the fence on this one.

NB Kenny 'charisma' Dalglish for Liverpool ?
  • Is Steve Clark still at West Ham as sure he was Avrams assistant at Chelsea and is a fine coach. If Clark is there, they will form a decent duo again. Fully expect Grant to do better in the transfer market than Zola and to comfortably lead West Ham to mid table medocrity. Question is whether that is enough for the West Ham fans.

Not Mr Charisma but neither are some of the better managers about, Grant has proved at other clubs he is no fool and seems to have earned the respects of both fans and players. West Ham fans and now owners are notoriosuly hard to please so he will do well to please them.
  • Could be available very soon!
  • gets teams into major finals so i would still fancy west ham
  • What on earth was obinna thinking there?
