All,
I'm off to Vegas with a couple of mates for a long weekend (Thurs - Mon) in just under two weeks to help get over the fact that I'm turning 40... Can't wait, as it has been 6 years since I last went, but would be grateful if anyone has been more recently (WSS?) and can recommend best bars/restaurants/clubs? We're all a similar age, a couple love their clubs (where they become 18 again - or 21 as we're in the US) and we've resigned ourselves to spending more money than we would like as we want to 'treat' ourselves rather than worrying about how much it's all going to cost...any suggestions?
We're staying at the Bellagio, so will make sure we check out all that has to offer....where else to go?
Thanks

Do you have a list of the hotels in question?
New York New York, Bellagios, Luxor...err basically all the larger ones :-)
Oh I picked a poor show to go to; Chris Angel/Cirque and it was utter dreck. Wished I'd done the O.
hotels or brasses?!!!
I havent been since 2008 (but am going in October this year and possibly again in November if the Mayweather fight goes ahead).
I have havent eaten in a restaurant out there on numerous occasions but you've got a Smollenskys and there are a couple of cracking restaurants in the Wynn Hotel. Pearl (Oriental) in MGM Grand is also good.
There are just simply too many places to list and recommend but the two clubs that I love are Tryst (Wynn) and Tao (Venetian). I've been told that XS at Encore is also fantastic.
If you want to do the clubs though, it's really worth biting the bullet, going the full hog and getting a table with your vodka etc I reckon you'll be looking at about $1,500 for a table. Come on, you're in Vegas - go mental.
The club at the the top of the Rio is also meant to be good but i've never made it there in the three times I've been.
Have a cracking time, I can't wait until October.
For some reason it seems to attract a certain kind of party animal...
And as for the gals in tiny white tops and arse pinching orange shorts, Oooh-la-la...!!!
Use above link to the tripadvisor Vegas forum - you can pick up some good tips there from people who have posted TR (trip reports) or JBR (just back reports)
Best steakhouse when I last went was
smith and wollensky
Haven't been since 2004 so things have probably moved on a bit since then.
One of the best hotel bars we went in was in The Golden Nugget up on Freemont St. Cheap beers and live music.
If you fancy a posh boys meal the Hyatt Regency on Lake Las Vegas is amazing. We had our wedding reception there. Helicopter out to the lake, land on the edge of the lake then cruise across to one of the best restaurants I've ever been to.
Make sure you stop off a Larry's Villa at somepoint. Amazing place, hourly rates as well ;-).
As for clubs you need to be in them for when they open otherwise you wont get in or will be stood in line for ages! Not worth it. I did like the dueling piano bar at the New york New York for a cheap, good atmosphere place that is open late!
I would not bother with the Bellagio club as it was just heavy R & B and way too young. Worth checking out coyote ugly at new york new york too! As for shows I did see the cirque de soleil that was pretty good.
Well worth checking out Rehab at the hard rock on a sunday if you are there, it opens at 1pm and is an afternoon pool party! If you have any more questions then ask as I have been three times
Actually doing couply stuff this time, booked up helicopters to canyon, cirque de soleil shows and a couple of restaurants. Probably end up spending more than I did than when I went with the lads.
If people want me to put a few dollars on a number on the wheel let me know and I'll sit what I can do - we can settle up on my return. ;-)
When you walk through the casinos and look at the roulette tables you will see loads of 12's on the list of recent numbers.
Only when you bet on it will they all disappear....
Buy discount coupons from restaurant.com
At check in smile and ask if there are any upgrades available (esp as getting there on a Weds).
See you there next July then Oakster :-)
Sounds like a plan!!
XS is the best club I've ever been to without a doubt.
Got table service at Pure last November and Rain the year before, both were really good but XS was just amazing.
The biggest, and best, sports book is at the Hilton.
The Golden Nugget, downtown on Freemont Street, had a $4.95 prime rib lunch that was four courses. In fact, Freemont Street has a lot more bargains to attrack those staying on the strip.
There are still bargains, but you need to shop more for them.
Also, the Hoover Dam is worth a side sightseeing trip, especially with the new suspension bridge opening soon.
And UNLV may be playing football or basketball, depending on when you go. Basketball is a great show at the Thomas & Mack Center, just a few blocks from the Strip.
