[cite]Posted By: Scoham[/cite]Well it sounds like he did get an offer (the rumour of £800 a week), just not a very good one.

to be fair, i would say that about right for a young back-up player for a league one side; over £40k a year, plus there would probably be bonuses as well - which would probably take it up to at least 50k.

It's the "significant pay cut" whiich is no doubt the problem.

I think I can look at it from Basey's point of view - I had almost 20 years of being freelance in my career and if I'd ever been offered the opportunity to continue at a company I'd been with for some time on half the money, I think I'd have had a good look around before I signed up to it. So I don't blame him - what's he supposed to do? As someone else pointed out, if he's lucky his playing career will last another 12 years and if he's unlucky with an injury it could be over in 6 months.

Grant seems to have impressed , he is remaining with Aberdeen on their tour of England .

Three of the other trialists have been released. However ,Robbie Williams is still in talks .

Perhaps they'll sign both, Williams as the left back, Basey as a left or centre back.

If he can get regular football it'll be a great move for him, as even with gaps in our squad, it doesn't look like he'd have got that here this season.

I guess Jackson's signing sealed Grant's fate here unless he were to take the lower wage.

Personally I would still like a real left back if Youga is not fit, maybe QPR might let us have Borrowdale on loan again.

I like Basey but feel that Jacko could be a real star for us this year but as a midfielder not a left back.

Just been over Sparrows Lane to watch 1st half of the U18s v Spanners.

Baseys (or his car anyway) was there when I arrived and left, on the way out Sam Sodje was driving past me too.

    U16s were losing 2-1, U18s 0-0 at ht.

What basey is doing is fine, compared to other footballers of his age he hasnt shown greed, or lack of commitment.

Daniel Sturridge however, as a 19 year-old at man city turned down reportedly £45,000 a week to earn £60,000 a week at chelsea. I dont understand how anyone could turn down such offers at a young age, from the club who have made him the player he is and given him his high-profile.

Sturridge wanted first team football which he is getting at Chel......... Oh wait a minute, that's not right!

It's easy to call him greedy but in the last year of doing precious little Mr Sturridge has picked up 2.5 million pounds before tax.

Despite saying he was going on the trip to England I notice on the Aberdeen site that Basey did not play today at Tamworth.

If you were on £45,000 a week and got offered £60,000 a week for the same job, you'd take it I'm sure. City got adequately compensated, so what's the problem?
