Squeeze are so enamoured with the new gadget that they abandoned one of their conventional instruments on a live TV gig.
Appearing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in the US, keyboard player Stephen Large played an entire keyboard solo on his iPad.
Large played the real-life keyboard with one hand while keeping his other hand on the new technology throughout the performance, keeping the enthusiastic audience in suspense until his iPad solo in the third minute of their song Pulling Mussels (From the Shell).
They are so happy with the solo that they are intending to perform an entire song only using iPads by the end of their tour.
The band, which originally formed in 1974 but reformed in 2007, appeared on the show as part of a tour of America, including a concert in New York last night.
Music websites are crowded with discussion of the iPad, which can also mimick the sound of the piano, trombone and organ, as well as playing sampled voices.
The band used the Pianist app, produced by MooCowMusic, to replicate the keyboard sound.
