Big Train

Just watching a few old episodes of Big Train on DVD - In one sketch they cut to Simon Pegg and some others jumping around celebrating a goal being scored, and the all have Charlton Wembley 98 scarves on and one of them is wearing a MESH shirt. Can't believe I didn't spot it first time around...

    Great programme.

The "artist formerly known as prince" stalking the jockeys was surreal.

Also remember the w.......g (fails to think of suitable euphenism) at work sketch when there was uproar because they wanted to phase it out with pegg behind the plant. Genius

Big train was terrific. The World Staring Championships with Barry Davies and the Evil Hypnotist were my favourites sketches. Not seen it for years, always amazes me it hasn;t been picked up by one of the satelite channels that specialise in repeats. Might have to put the DVDs on my Christmas list.

Good isn't it. Alison Steadman as Candice Marie cracks me up.

You've talked me into it, two series set on Amazon for just £7. Remember rolling about laughing at at the wanking bush and Emperor Ming on his day off.

I'll have to get the DVD as well, after the Chris Morris stuff it's definitely my favourite show.

Love the rock opera promo's at the end. Virginia Plain to Mao Tse Tung, it must have been so much fun to come up with those ideas and do it.

I like Big Train but i agree with you about Chris Morris. Brasseye paedophile episode is the funniest thing i have ever seen.

That's the one where the all sigh ain't it?

Also the guy on his first day at the broth factory, when the boss says that to many staff who heat the broth are ruining the hot soup like liquid... and that the new warm cakes are selling very well.

It was a spoof ad for "man-pads", in the same episode as the aforementioned Emperor Ming at Home sketch.

I liked Big Train as well. Bits of it were self-indulgent tosh, but other bits were pant-wettingly funny. I don't think I've laughed as much before (or since) as I did when the postman shot the dog.

I worked on the first series. Really good time working with talented people.

If you like Big Train check out a generally overlooked piece of genius called Spoons (written by Lord Brooker, who was also part of the Brass Eye team), for a slightly less gentle but equally surreal take on the world. £4 on Amazon.
