Ross Worner to sign

ties in with what fans were told at The Valley, esp regarding a medical yesterday.

The Cards’ board rejected an initial four-figure fee — plus a similar amount to be paid in January — on Tuesday.

Could total more than a four figure fee.....

sounds like a good young keeper with potential. should keep elliot on his toes, but wont mind waiting for his chance.

Cant believe we are paying a fee for a bloke who by Parky's own admission is going to sit on the bench and be replaced by a loan signing if we loose Elliot injured or suspended. First move that Parky has made this summer that I dont agree with.

No expert on these things, but a loan signing's club, especially a gk, would expect there man to be playing more often than not. Signing a cheapish no 2 and give him games in in the jpt, and possibly 1st round of league cup for experience
    seems the way to go

Wasnt advocating a loan signing. Parky has said we will loan someone if Elliot gets injured and this new keeper will remain on the bench. If this bloke is to cost 10-15k surely that would be better spent on wages elsewhere.

Jeeez, we're only talking about a four figure fee. Surely we need a 2nd keeper who is part of the club, not some loanee who comes in if Elliot gets injured. Goalkeepers need competition for their place too.

  • Worner would probably be on half the wages that Marshall would so it would work out about the same really.

And a loan signing will often require some sort of fee, and a more experienced keeper would require a much higher signing on fee. So a small four figure fee for a young keeper on low wages is a good deal if you ask me. I have faith in Parky!

Everyone is missing the point. Parky has said we are signing this bloke to sit on the bench. If Elliot gets injured we will bring in another keeper. Why not just sign someone who you trust to play if Elliot gets injured and use Gough on the bench in the Elliot injured scenario.

An experienced pro would push Elliot for his place and probably aid his development.

What happens if Elliot has a poor run of form as was the case last season? Another loan?

Looks like he tried that with marshall.

Back to plan b. young keeper with potential for a future here, and a loan for
a more exprienced keeper when/if Elliot gets injured. worst case scenario, robbie gets injured 10 mins, then Gough comes in, who by all accounts is not ready for div 1 going by reports on here who have seen him.

Robbie elliot is undroppable:-) in the eyes of parky , last season we lucked out with his injury forcing randy to play (when robbies form would have merited a rest) and therby shoring up our leaking ship and steering us into the play offs........ by the looks of it this year we're not gonna be so lucky
    Big mistake imo

I have seen Gough play and him being 16 years of age would suggest that he currently too young to appear in any league games. He did well in the games at Bedford and Concorde, but realistically he does not yet have the experience. I have also seen Ross Wornley play for Woking and there is little between them. Let's keep Gough out of the picture and not spoil his obvious potential.

Yep, we should have signed David James or maybe Iker Casillas fancied a new challenge after winning the World Cup? What could be bigger than that except for a season between the sticks at the Valley?

Looks like we've snagged a young up and coming keeper who'll be cheap and can possibly be sold on at a profit in a year or so. Marshall would have been a good signing but he either got an offer elsewhere we couldn't match or he didn't want to start as a reserve keeper. It does demonstrate Parky's thinking that he was looking to get in experience and in such circumstances we shouldn't spend money that is needed elsewhere on a reserve keeper.

    wow, so a maximum £ 9,999. Upped now to £ 10,001 and a packet of rolo's.

Gough is only 16 though so plenty of time for him. I'd agree if he were 18 or 19. Worner is 21 I believe and a good prospect. In a year time with a good season under his belt Robbie will be our most saleable asset and Worner may become number 1 whilst there is no chance of then 17 yr old Gough doing that.

Sensible,i would rather we spend any money on a striker or two.
