Open minded on this. Pace is always exciting to see so if we can coach a little bit of skill and footballing awareness into him he's worth a shout.

No harm done - good work Parky

Bit excited, hopefully he will make appearances (and be good enough to). Surely he's a winger to challenge Waggy.

Wonder why all the other triallists were turned down but this guy offered a rolling contract immediately. Must have impressed more??

''Cant see how we can get to excited about this kid, 22 apearences, 0 goals. He is no doubt there for back up, nothing more''

Maybe he is comming here with a point to prove?

Sure we wont say that if he comes on as a sub and scores a hatrick:P

[cite]Posted By: Steve Dowman[/cite]Madz, you deserve to be shot down for being so gullible, thought Oggy was joining you for a minute.

Ha ha, I've even seen John Hewie and Eddie Firmani play!

And despite all the slagging he got on here at the time, I thought Shaun Bartlett was a quality player who scored some cracking goals ....... and sacrificed his own natural game for the cause, when Curbs asked hime to play the lone forward role.

Mark Feeeeeesh too, before his accident.

Been reading up on him; he’s primarily a winger, but can play up front or behind the striker. He has been said to have ‘bags of energy’, ‘thunderous’ pace and ‘a real handful for defenders’. He did well during his time at MK dons; reading some match reports, seems they tended to play him on the left wing. He did really well for them. Some of his performances were labelled as ‘outstanding’ and ‘sensational’. On his old profile page on the Norwich website they compared him to Darren Huckerby.

Watched them train on thur and he was really quick. Wasn't too bad at crossing either so hopefully he'll be given a chance.

I REALLY want this to be true...but doubt he'd be playing for us if it was!!

    Fingers crossed...

Seems like he we cover a lot of positions and is like a rat-up-a-drain-pipe. This could be a smart move!

    I'll get me coat.

Let's see how he does. This is like this time last year when we signed Wade Small. Cover in the early games, he'll either prove himself and win a contract or we'll hopefully sign someone else who is an improvement.

We saw last season that Reid struggles for fitness in last 20 mins of a game, and has never had a season where he's played virtually every week, so a really good idea to ensure we have cover:
    a. to come on as a sub and rip tiring defences to bits with pace
    b. to replace Reid if injured or to give him a rest

With a very small squad, we aren't really going to have the luxury of plans B and C - more likely a plan A as our normal way of playing, but with a bit of cover/ depth to ring individual changes within the chosen formation. Probably also explains why wwe are going for strikers with similar strengths rather than someone small and nippy.

    A smart move....

Errmmm....forgive me if I dont get too excited by this one, not much of a pedigree. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised.

For those doubting he is the surprise, read Parky's interview again. Mentions 1 non contract player being on the bench and a Dutch striker coming in.

Safe to say this is the surprise.

He said he only signed in the hope he would meet his hero AFKABarnum
  • Orlando Smeekes is the dutch fella by all accounts

I think he is the surprise. Parky didn't say the surprise player would necessarily be the Dutch trialist. He also seemed to hint at one player signing a non contract deal, I doubt we'll sign two.

What do you expect from a league one club with no money?

I dunno, a household name maybe? I wasn't expecting much but when he said "surprise" it got me hopeful, too hopeful in all honesty.

    # 14

Posted By: Henry IrvingWhy waste time on South African players?

Never had any success with any we've signed before.

It is going back a bit but.......... http://www.addicks.biz/showPlayer.php?id=174

I also thought too that Shaun Bartlett did a good job for a couple of seasons.

I am glad that Parky is not just signing anybody in and is taking a look around for players who will add something positive to the team.

So looks like we'll only be getting one decent striker/winger then. Is there only one more player to come in now? I've lost count.

Bally Smart? Sounds like something out of a Jeeves and Wooster novel.
