MK2 Renault Espace bought new (Nreg). 3 turbos and two sets of front discs and 7,000 miles on the clock later, it had to go. Renault warranty.....well lets say they wasnt exactly cooperative. Had a Vauxhall Viva Automatic H reg that just took an age to start....despite several mechanics apparently sorting it out, you could sit there to until the cows came home on occasion. Same thing with a wonderful car...an Alfa Guilietta...great when it was going, a bugger when it wouldnt start...peculiar gearbox on the back axle arrangement though. Car I hated the most was when I had to give up my Mini's (Ive owned dozens) and had to become a family man and had a Vauxhall Chevette....bloody thing never went wrong, but I hated the bugger.
[cite]Posted By: wickford[/cite]
[cite]Posted By: Bedsaddick[/cite]The Ford Classic
This was the Ford Consul Classic - following the big old things (last model the 375?).
There was also the catchily named Ford Consul Classic Capri - visually the same from the front but instead of the inverted rear window (à la Anglia) it had a slopey out one and was (maybe) a two-door.
Actually at the time it was just "Ford Capri", it's only later on that people refer to it as as "Classic Capri" or "Consul Capri", to differentiate it from the later 70s and 80s Capris. The Capri was the 2-door coupe version of the Classic saloon. I had one of them for a few years - it was a lovely motor - column gearchange - not really built for speedy changes.

A lot of people think that the short-lived Classic was a flop and was replaced by the Mk 1 Cortina, but actually it was always meant to be a stop-gap and what replaced it was not the Cortina, but the Corsair. Now, where did I put that anorak?!

Mine unbeliveably is the new Jaguar XF portfolio, had the car 10 months broke down 6 times, towed in 5 times, in garage just over 6 weeks in total lost about 10K. They could not find out what was wrong with it as the computer said there was no problems. Fuel efficentcy went from 36mpg down to below 26mpg. Seen the adverts on telly saying how good it was, spoke to jaguar their reply was sue us, where bigger than you and we will win. Oh for days of my first car a very old 1.4 Ital, admittedly totally rusted away but keep going for my first 2 years of driving.

Mine was a second hand Morris Marina. One previous owner - my dad's mate.

Nightmare car! Driving it back from Bexleyheath after I collected it I turned right at about 10 mph in very light rain and I lost the rear end in a skid! That was when the warning bells started to ring.

Later on (again in light rain - there's a pattern emerging here) it suffered a complete electrical power failure at 70 mph in the middle lane of the M3. Lights went off, engine cut out, how I didn't get hit I'll never know.

Final straw (again in light rain) smoke started to pour into the car. The loom had caught fire - I pulled over and let the thing fizzle out. Luckily I'd remembered stopping to help someone in Ha Ha Road who's car was on fire. When the fire brigade arrived, they said it was the worst thing to do opening the bonnet as you let oxygen in to fuel the fire.

Renault Megane S reg from a nice little old farmer who said he was "selling it for his daughter". Call me sucker. Day 2 the steering lock had to be drilled out and replaced. The clutch went, the power steering went, the handbrake went, the suspension went all within four months. The garage that did the MOT must have examned it by post!
I now have a competely beaten up, ugly, 10 year old mondeo 2 which I have driven into the ground , has never let me down, and I love the old git...

Renault Megane 1.9 TD - Horrible thing. Wallowed through corners, noisy, slow..... Got shot pretty quickly.

I had an 06 Reg astra 1.9TDI 150bhp company car which was a good car but amazingly dull. After that went back I had a 1l 05reg Clio which was horrible but amazing fun to drive despite having no grip!

Jags used to have a terrible reputation, but I think, despite these comments, they're a lot better since Ford owned them (I know they've since been sold).

Years ago I know a guy who had a Lotus - he reckoned something (not ever the same thing!) serious went wrong about once every 300 miles! But it was such a fantastic car, he would never sell it. Another guy had an Alfa - great to drive, but he claimed that on a quiet night you could hear it rusting away on his drive!

Saga lout, despite my unfortunate dealings with Jaguar, i do believe that they have come on leaps and bounds. I just got a bad one, like all things if there is a problem you do need help, which unfortunately because of the electronics nobody could help me, why they wouldnt download everything and reinstate with new software i have no idea. Why arn't there old engineers with fags dangling out the side of their mouths and feeling and listening to the engine and then fixing it i will never know. Computer says NO, therefore nobody can fix it.

    MGB GT. red....

I bought it for a song, and thinking I could with a bit of filler, and a bit more elbow grease I could 'restore it'.....

From the bottom of the door to the exhast pipe the floor pan was rotten!, that was what was left of the floor. I went around to my mates house and spent about two days putting in a floor ( from an old washing machine) stuck the carpet down and put underseal over the bottom then drove through some mud. MOT station did not spot it!. rebuilt the carbs ( somehow) cleaned it all up and in the right light it looked ok.... Flogged it to a dealer for a Mk2 escort in Sydenham.

The parts were a fortune, even second hand and although I did buy quite a few parts, driving over the South East, looking in Exchange and Mart, steering wheel, set of wheels, enough chrome for a Cadillac or so it seemed at the time..In the end with some help of a couple of mates I got my fingers burnt, but not long enough...... Of course i got my come uppance I bought a Mk2 facelift 3000 Gt, Capri great bodywork, had the car 24 hours, having had the car tuned at 'Sans speed' and some git nicked it off my drive and drove it into a tree! when I lived in Barnehurst.

    Do yo know what

how the flipping hell have i not put this as my worst car ever

About 16 mths ago i asked people on here about the Vauxhal Insignia estate 2.0 ltr SRI 160BHP

seeing as i hadnt really had a vauxhall since i was about 22

it turned out to be the worst bloody thing in the world

recived it on august 17th 2009

went in to vauxhall a week later all the doors bar the driver door wouldnt open when we were all in it, the horn continually went off and the parcel shelf kept collapsing whilst driving

4 weeks later got car back apparently there was no spare parts for the door!!!!!!!!!!

2 weeks later car is making a horrendous noise intermitently when you turn the steering wheel

went into garage they agreed it wasnt right but couldnt find fault called for their specialist engineer

he reckons it was a normal noise and that his insignia made it

took car back within 2 days noise was no longer intermitent and was continual

engineer says it is acceptable i tell him bollox and give the car to our fleet mgr after refusing to drive the bloody thing

on way to fleet engineer have a blow out on the nth circ at 50 scares the shit out of me, car has done 2K miles yet the tyre was down to wire!!!!!!!!!!

Car dumps all its power steering fluid all over fleet mgrs drive (he very fooking mad)

Vauxhall collect car and take it back to the factory..

4 mths later i get the car back!!! whole front end rebuilt because they couldnt get to the steering rack without taking it off????

2 weeks later get blow out at 30ish mph no wear on tyre but a bloody great hole in the side (check for snipers as i was in tottenham) car now has 3.5K miles on it

1 week later Car starts driving very sluggish and sounds like a tank

    garage again

2 weeks later get car back on way home from garage bang tyre gone again at about 30 same thing whopping great split in the side wall

getting concerned now that this car is trying to kill me

have all 4 corners checked and rebalanced

car drives pucker for a month or so taking it to ireland and swindon for playoffs speeding at times

taking nljr to his footie presentation bang tyre goes at 50 on the a10 very scary for him and me

put spare on and check all 4 wheels 3 are down to the wire??? on the inside and a full 6ml on the outside

get all 4 wheels changed again ( all at the expense of lease company but no alarm bells ringing there yet)

car gets rebalanced but i am now very very nervous everytime i get in car no more speeding

1 week later car starting to make a blowing noise from engine take it to the garage air intake problem ,,, no parts bring it back in 2 weeks!!!!!!

1 day later i have a blow out on nth circ at 50mph, the car snakes the back out instead of turning into the skid i turn the other way because turnin in would have taken me into the centre reservation and i start to stare at drivers wondering what one is going to be the one to kill me the car has won and this time i am a goner

other drivers manage to avoid me i creep over to the hard shoulder shiteing myself

i call recovery people and get car to garage where i empty it leave it there tell them to shove it up their arses

i send my fleet mgr an email stating all of the above and in the email tell him i am giving my wife a copy of said email and that if they insist that i continue with this car that if anything happens to me physically because of an incident in this vehicle she is to sue.

2 hrs later i get a response telling me that a Volvo V50 estate will be with me in 2hrs and i am never to drive that car again and i am to order another car from our fleet

wont be a flipping vauxhall insignia thats for sure

Mitsubishi Spacewagon. I expected it to be a gas guzzler, I didn't think I'd have to keep topping it up with oil too.

Jesus mate Im surprised you put up with that for so long....the tyres problem alone shows that there is something fundamentally wrong with the cars suspension set up. However, some other poor bugger is going to get this pile of shite and to me it sounds like a deathtrap and that in itself is wrong too....at least youre out of the firing line mate.

if it was mine i would have canx the direct debit and parked it on the foyer of the show room, but because it was a company car i couldnt do it.

i really do hope that the car gets taken out of service but it wont..

i called the car christine in the end i was convinced it was going to kill me.

i parked it at work in a parking space on a slight incline, the car rolled forward with the handbrake on fully into a space that already had a car in it

with regards to the tyres all they did was argue between kwick fit and vauxhall over if the car was rebalanced at the times they said it was

horrible experience that i will never trust the insignia again

I difficult decision - the immediate thought was a Lancia Beta Coupe - but ignoring the rust that car was such great fun to drive. So it's got to be a Mk4 Cortina Ghia: the most utterly boring car I've ever owned. I've never had a car with 4 doors before or since.

my worst car was a montego, biggest pile of poo I've ever driven. Had a 'new fangled' electronic management system which meant I got 15 mpg. Eat it's way through three clutches in six months because of 'new fangled' assisted clutch. PX'd it for more than I paid for it for a brand new Citroen BX.

Citroen always leaked water through the top of the passenger door, dealers could never put it right. Suspension was really nice for the first 3 years, then one by one the high pressure hydraulic pipes started to fail, must have replaced most of them over the course of the next 18 months

Fiat Brava 1.6SX. Pretty much everything that could pack up on it did after 2-3 years and all the build quality of 8 year old's go-cart. Sun roof leaked like a b#####d which meant every shower led to several days worth of the carpets drying out and would've cost more than the car was worth to get fixed. The only car I've felt guilty about selling on and wouldn't touch another Fiat if I won one.
