Bolton Wanderers are in talks to sign St Etienne defender Fousseni Diawara.

The Mali international has struggled for regular first-team football this season and has made just three appearances in Ligue 1.

St Etienne are prepared to allow Diawara to move to England and have confirmed the player is training with Bolton.

He will also hold talks with the Premiership club in the hope of finalising a switch to The Reebok Stadium.

Diawara's agent Franck Belhasen has told skysports.com that discussions are due to be held with Sam Allardyce's side.

"We have just arrived and haven't yet started the negotiations," Belhasen told skysports.com.

"I will be able to tell you more tonight."

The right-back has spent the bulk of his career with St Etienne, but now looks to be on his way to the Premiership.
