Excellent interview.Really enjoyed it.1

I'm off to see Rob Elliott's Gateshead team against Chris Solly's Ebbsfleet today - two teams in good form albeit at opposite ends of the table.
Gateshead are playing some decent possession football - much like Notts County did last season - and it appears to be paying off8 -
He's been interim manager there since October. Weird that he hasn't been made permanent, or someone else brought in.0

I saw Rob at a match a few weeks back and when I told him I was an Addick he seemed genuinely happy to hear it (way more than Phil Parkinson!). I asked for a post-match interview and he said "normally there's no chance but I can't so no to a Charlton fan. I'll do it if we win." But they lost so that was that!7 - Sponsored links:

Was apparently in the running for the Carlisle job so is getting some light EFL interest for the job he’s doing at Gateshead.11

I'd like to hope that he might be a future Charlton Manager - But also remember from past interviews from his Newcastle days, that he's really settled in the North East calls it more of a home now than being in London, so wouldnt be surprised if it'll be difficult to get him to elsewhere.
Guess it depends how successful he wants to be as a Football Manager.
Or whether he's enjoying it, as he's able to be a Manager somewhere, where he can also be with his family, and if Gateshead doesnt work out... meh!!0 -
Rob seems to have become an adopted Geordie now. I imagine that in January he walks around in a t-shirt and shorts.6

Lost 7-1 to Dagenham in their last game. Some shocking defending.0

In L1 we rightly expect to be challenging for promotion, developing a style like that usually takes a lot time and patience, with money making it much easier.
Garner and Peeters tried and neither couldn’t sustain it. We didn’t have the budget to build a whole squad who could play that way with depth to cover for injuries and suspensions.
I just wouldn’t want us to try it again, we don’t have the time and patience to do it in L1, and we don’t have the budget to do it in the Championship.0 -

If/when this is confirmed:
From Caretaker manager at Gateshead In the national league in October 23 to Manager of Crawley in League 1 in October 24. What a difference a year makes.
After 13 years the canny Rob Elliot, a bona fide Charlton fan has left his adopted home of the North East to come back to the South East and the Greenhouse gas sky's of Crawley. Great for plane spotters rather than train spotters.
Gateshead reached the playoffs and won the FA trophy last season; unfortunately denied their Playoff place due to 'Lease issues' with their home ground.
38 year old Rob Elliot must be seen as a safe pair of hands and joins Crawley in 20th place.3 -

I know it's early in the morning J Block, but Rob was a keeper 😃
Also Elliot ( just the one t) only got the full time Managers job 4 months ago; as I said he was caretaker from October 23.0 -

Unless he end up being an assistant to someone in the future and takes the Charlton job that way. (which given his circumstances I doubt).0
