The Wednesday Quiz - Alliterative Addicks

edited November 2010 in General Charlton
With one Alliterative Addick hitting the top of the scoring charts here are ten more to recognise.

Usual rules: No googling or looking up in books and then posting. And yes, I know it's Tuesday but there's a game tonight

1. No longer the "one JJ"

2. Diminutive winger who also played for Millwall and Rotherham

3. Manager

4. One of a pair of brothers to play for the Club

5. One of the Club's first Black players. Played one game, scored one goal.

6. Striker coached by a Lifer

7. Played 100 times for the Club he supported before being sold

8. 248 games, 76 games, a relegation and back to back promotions before being the first licensee of the "Valley" pub

9. Another hero of the back to back promotion team

10. And a really obscure one to finish. A Cambridge blue at football he played as an amateur winning seven England Amateur caps and winning the FA Amateur Club. Played only four times for Charlton. He was killed in 1940 during an air raid on Haberdashers school where he was a teacher.

Real long shot for 10) Henry & I'm far from certain of the spelling but could it be William Wheewall or Wheewell, something like that?

It was William Whewell. Well done for getting that one.

Thanks Henry. When my dad first took me in 1952 we used to stand towards the back of the south terrace & the loo, such as it was, comprised of a sort of concrete structure with just cinders on the ground which absorbed the urine. He was quite proud that this 'toff' played for us & the name of William Wee Wall stuck in my mind for obvious reasons!Never knew about his history in the FA Amateur Cup though.thanks for that.

Strictly speaking Lennie Lawrence is alliterative but "Phill" Parkinson isn't.

No, that was a myth made up by the Club to make him more acceptable to the fans.

And before anyone else says it yes it's William Bonds and Anthony Towner
