Number two's emerging

edited January 2011 in General Charlton
Calm down Carter and MCS, this isn't what you think it is !

Steve Clarke is starting to get increased mentions. Not one i would instantly dismiss to be honest.

There has been a long history of mixed results from seasoned 'Number Two's' making the step up. Be interesting if others can help me expand on the list below;

Good

Gus Poyet
Steve McClaren

Bad

Les Reed
Ray Wilkins
Sammy Lee

Mixed

Paul Hart

  • Lennie Lawrence
    George Graham
  • Martin Jol was mixed...started off pretty well but then went a tad clueless towards the end.
  • Arguably Alan Curbishley and Steve Gritt in that they'd both helped Lennie out
  • PS: Houston gets into the mixed category....he got Arsenal to the European Cup Winners Final (the Nayim match)

McLaren should probably go in the 'mixed' bucket.

Took Boro to a European final
    Poor as England manager
Lead Twente FC to their first ever title
    Struggling at Wolfsburg
  • Henry...where was George Graham No.2?
  • Good - Mourinho
  • Bad
    Jimmy Trotter

    Mixed
    Eddie Firmani
    Theo Foley

    Good
    Mike Bailey
  • Going back a few years .

    Good

Oh thank goodness. I was worried that changing the twins' nappies had finally taken it's toll on AFKA!

    Mixed- Kevin Blackwell

Good- Malkay Mackay- sure he was number 2 at Watford under Rodgers.
