I wonder what the Charlton players are thinking today....?

After the Swindon debacle, the players get their customary day off - and learn that the entire management team has been fired.

So they have reported to training today; Peacock no doubt calls a team meeting and Matthews takes training.

What' do you think is going through the players' minds ........?

defence - 'great no more smashing 70 yard balls up to Benno'
midfield - 'great no more of the back 4 smashing 70 yard balls up to Benno'
Strikers - 'great no more having 70 yard balls smashed up to our heads'
  • These new owners mean business, we better start playing football boys!

A lot of that team are Parkinson's team so don't suppose they will be over the moon. They are professionals though and have a match against Spurs to prepare for and I suppose that will help. They will probably be determined to win the game for Parky although I can't see that happening.

If they are probably thinking of winning the game for Parky, begs the question why didn't they do it why he was here.

i'd like to think most of them are on the blower to their agents whilst doherty and daily are sorting out how they don't end up anywhere near Defoe, Lennon or bale on sunday.

Racon, Semedo, Dailly, Jackson and Benson will be down right now. They have all shown for their respect to the man sinc e he took charge.

Parky is a nice guy, why didn't I play better - maybe he could have kept his job if I had...

Ok, maybe not - more likely this:

    Jacko was gutted!
  • I reckon Simon Francis is hoping the new manager is an advocate of 'kicking the ball as hard as you can in the direction your facing' otherwise he is f**ked

i reckon Abbott is hoping the new manager is looking to build a team around a striker who can't trap a bag of cement and can't run and kick a ball at the same time and is fat and f**kin useless.

    I reckon the rest don't give a flying f**k

I don't get this, if all our strikers were given the same 20 games to play, I think he'd score the most of the lot, as Benno would only score away from home, Sodje would just run about like a headless ox, Anyinsah would only play 10 of the games, Martin would get on 'Showboat' every week but never finish, and Abbott would go shot-Goal Kick, shot-throw in, Shot-Goal!!!

He's inconsistent but he's also our best natural finisher, as his entire career shows.

If it is anything like when the last take over was rumoured and when Pardew went then they will be thinking: " Oh good I might get more chance in the side / get a pay rise / play in my favorite position more.'

Do you reckon any of them are quaking in their boots fearing the next manager is going to bring in his own players....?

Or won't they give a toss?

Oh Behave! Thats the best laugh I have had in a long time. Abbots got the turning circle of the Titanic. I was gonna say he couldn't finish his dinner, but by the looks of him he's finished everyone else's!

ive seen milk turn quicker than abbott....cant understand how oldham fans rated him so highly.
  • Need to phone the estate agent tomorrow to get the mansion valued. Not sure how the wife is going to feel about moving again but hey, the signing on fee at the new club will mean she can buy herself another Guicci handbag so that will keep her happy.

Wonder if I can get a refund on the school fees I've just forked out for the kids for the rest of this year?

Also better ring Parky and tell him how sorry I am to hear the news. Will be handy to keep in his good books as I might be able to wangle a move to whereever he ends up.

And finally better check how the pension plan is doing as well. Shame the Swindon game was on TV as any prospective employers might realise how c**p and lazy I am so getting a move may not be that easy and I might need to start drawing on the pension sooner than I thought.

Benno scores more away from home because defences are more open. I have been watching the movement of our strikers closely at home for a while and it is too easy to defend against. Sodje does run around like a headless chicken but if you haven't got a top striker- this is more effective against the lesser teams at the Valley who set out to stifle and frustrate our attack. Anyinsah is physically strong and has pace and defenders hate that. To stop the Walsalls and Swindon's you have to give their defence problems and for me the only 2 players that fall into that category are Anyinsah (definitely) and Sodje (possibly). That's not to say Benson isn't a decent signing but his partner is key. You have to play to his strengths which we haven't been doing. He is not the sort of player you should ask to do a job for you - not because he won't try but because he becomes half the player.

If you play Benson with Martin it is the same as playing him on his own as Martin does his own thing and does not know how to play off or with a fellow striker. You play Benson with Abbot and you have no pace whatsoever so defenders feel comfortable. If your strikers are shackled then there are no out balls for the midfield. Forget about the level and think a time when you might have played with strikers who were finding space and with shackled strikers. It's much easier to look good with the former - with the latter you either keep the ball too long and get tackled or play hopeful balls forward out of deseperation. The example is relevant, whatever the level.

If you are a wide player, you need players driving into the box but because our strikers without Anyinsah and Sodje are easy to track and mark you don't have the confidence to put the balls in. instead like Reid has been doing of late, you are more inclined to try and score yourself. I think Semedo, Racon, Jackson and Reid are as good, if not better than anything in this league but need the attack to function for them to look good. So not a lot needs fixing really to totally change the dynamic.

The problem for Parky is that Anyinsah is the heartbeat of the side. I know he isn't Ronaldo but we need him to make us tick. We rely on him too much because we don't have anybody else who can do the same job and teams set out to stop us rather than go toe to toe. I think you could mix and match the team against Swindon with the players available any way you liked and you were not going to get a commanding performance because of the balance up front. Chelsea are the same for me with Drogba - they need a fit Drogba to be at their best. different levels but the principal is the same.

Oi Muttley, are they all thinking that?
  • I doubt the players are shocked or surprised in any way, unless they had been told that Parky, Kins etc were definitely staying. Most of them have been around football for long enough to know that the average manager lasts three/four seasons maximum. Benson might be shocked because he came from D&R which is one of the few clubs to have retained their manager for a reasonably long period of time. But take Matt Fry - he's 21 and seen how many managers go over the last few years at West Ham?
