Surprisingly no it's not. The Sun In The Sands is not The British Oak.

You have to laugh don't you ?
Doh! took me a while but yes im back on planet earth now.
Another pub from my drinking days going by the sound of it.Many ahappy hour spent in there. On one away trip to Millwall jumped the coaches coming up from the south coast from that pub and went through every red light going with a police escort direct to The Den.Happy Days.
Sun in the sands has been a rubbish pub for decades I am surprised it has lasted this long - Where as the British Oak was a wonderful pub when Ray of the other Oak ran it went through a bit of a ropey for a few years when he left and is again a good pub.
British Oak used to be a watering hole for some of the CAFC players back in the Bob Curtis days. I remember watching one home game and going to the Oak after............Curtis and a couple of other players beat us there!
Used to drink in the Oak quite a lot when we lived in Charlton. That was before my Dad discovered the Newbridge club was cheaper though. Also used to have a cheeky pint there when I was doing my A'levels at Bluecoats.
I went past the other night and an electricity gang were digging alongside the kitchen area in Sun Lane because of a fault of some kind and the pub was in darkness. Apparently there was a fire in the kitchen (electricity fault?) while the pub was open and it had to be evacuated.
Shutters everywhere now with signs saying all items of value have been removed.
I went on the Sun in the Sands coach to Wembley for the Fulll Members Cup. We got there late because some of the regulars wanted time to finish their beer. I guess it will be a MaccyD's soon. Sad news.

Bob Curtis was a regular there ... and I used to get cheap/free drinks as my aunt worked behind the bar :-)

This would be a bonus for me as I could get a burger on my way to the game via their 'drive throu' rather than buying one at the ground for twice the price and half the taste.
Even better would be a Burger King 'drive throu', or maybe a KFC. I could live with the 'KFC Roundabout' if they closed the pub.

The Yorkshire Grey roundabout is still there, despite the pub shutting many years ago.
maybe it was the infamy of selling troop trainers on a sunday morning in the early 90s.
Agreed lived around the corner from it and never drank in there....the British Oak was the better pub
Should re-open after modernisation works are complete

Hardly anyone inside when it was open.
Conversion to house or flats more likely.
