Me and the girlfriend are going to the o2 in April and cant be arsed with travelling all the way back to Crawley after, plus Charlton are at home the next day so would like to stay local. Had a look at the Holiday Inn and the Pilot but both are £120+. Angerstein Hotel and Antigallican are 50ish a night.
Anyone stayed at either of these recently or know someone who has?
Am I likely to get ear ache for booking either of these?

    You will get grief.

Largely used by builders working locally.

Have you tried the Ibis in Greenwich?

Don't stay at the Angerstein it's as clem says, the antigallican is on a busy main road so unless you get a room at the back you will probably be woken early?

    Try the ibis.

What about the Mitre in Greenwich town centre? Never stayed there but gotta be nicer than the Angerstein I would guess and it's a good pub...

The Angerstein and the Anti are barely worth drinking in let alone staying at. If you can't find somewhere more reasonable, the Holiday Inn looks good value at £120 compared to either of the pubs.

If you stay at either of the said two, remember to wipe your feet on the way out.

Ring the Pilot up -landlord is a nice bloke and see what he can offer ? £120 seems steep? Great pub/beer/food.

If you are at the 02 the night before you could stay at the Travellodge at City Airport for about £32 for one night.
  • Thanks , will have a look through all this tomorrow

http://www.premierinn.com/en/hotel/LONGRE/london-greenwich - opens this week, although watch out for Lenny Henry.

There's a couple of £90/£100-ish hotels on Blackheath Standard (One Six Two and Greenland Villas) plus the Blackheath Bed and Breakfast which is actually at the top end of Eastcombe Avenue, Charlton.

Grief.. i think you would get dumped if you booked either of those two originally mentioned.

Ive got some mates booked into the Clarendon at 99 for the Pogues concert. Devonport house want 150 for the same night. All prices go up when there is an event.

I did actually stay at the Antigallican for a night about 18 months ago.

It was £55 and right by Charlton station (as I'd just travelled all the way from Cornwall late the night before)
and convenient, as I was playing in a football match for Charlton Life at the Meridian with a Saturday morning kick off.

It was adequate, I suppose - but grotty.
Washbasin in the room, toilet and shower shared accessed from the landing.

Breakfast was in the bar, and that Saturday morning I was accompanied by a handful of German and Japanese tourists plus one American. Coffee, toast and cornflakes was the breakfast.

It was adequate, I suppose - but grotty.
Yer pays yer money, yer takes yer choice.

Next time, I'll find a little homely B & B in a suburban street, run by a Mrs Jones.

Devonport House is the best hotel around Greenwich in my opinion. You would definitely get brownie points for booking in there, £115 right next to the park, good for local restaurants a couple of miles from the Valley and way better than a holiday inn.

I stayed in the Clarendon a few years ago and it was pretty tired. Felt 20 years out of date, chintzy and breakfast buffet swimming in oil...uch.

They are young and going to a concert so will be back late. Its just to put his head down for the night so its all about cost saving but without it being too grotty. 70 quid for the premier inn is good value i reckon.

  • Well............thanks lol
The Holiday Inn is £144 for the night I am after.
Have had a look at all the hotels mentioned and many others, all seem to be considerably higher or sold out on the night I am looking for.
Think I am going to save myself some money and the grief of an earful that would come with the Angerstein Hotel or the Antigallican and get the train home.

    Thanks anyway

What about a hotel around London Bridge? Couple of stops on the tube, easy to get to Charlton and the mrs can go shopping at Borough market?
  • Did think about that, but if we are going to go to London Bridge then we are half way home anyway. Only 30mins on the fast train back to the cesspit known as Crawley

I've stayed at the Angerstein a few times, it's clean and relatively cheap, friendly staff, great breakfast...

Forget the White Horse, that's all I'm saying...
