I think someone thought they were improving the area!. now they have a nice empty car park, that you cannot access! well that is today's woolwich!

Be interested in supporting this mural scheme if it can be organised!.....

Here's an article about that one in Woolwich: http://www.thegreenwichphantom.co.uk/2008/06/the-mural-vanishes/

Shame really -Greenwich/Charlton/Woolwich had one of the best collection of murals from that period. The benches on Rathmore road use to have a big mural (it went years ago!):

Still you have Floyd road which as far as I know is London's oldest from that period.

Well someone wanted to just blot it out!...... I photographed the area around there last year, and quite frankly as I have posted on here before the whole area is one that with a proper long term stratergy with a couple of partners could have restored the urban blight that there currently is here!. I am a long time critic of Greenwich council's appauling heritage planning about the way it has ruined this part of the borough!.

The trouble was that meant dealing with private firms, and the Greenwich people's utopia from the 70s is the result!....... ! wonder how many of that lot live there now!

It really was not too much to expect a council to have used some imagination and foresight twenty years ago to have seen what we have ended up with!. Although I do have mixed views about the royal arsenal site, that goes to show what was possible. The whole river frontage has been a wasted opportunity in my opinion , no good just blaming the people who have to live with short sighted planning, if you can call it that!.

As a footnote re: the Woolwich artwork, I spoke to the one of the office workers, in the empty car park that was not being used!..... she thought the work was done by 'agents' shall we say of the landowners to the surrounding site!.
