I had to have 3 operations in 3 months at the place to remove kidney stones. I also had another 5 procedures before that to destroy them, all the DVH over a two year period because of their incompetence. I hate the place but when you look at it, who else do they have to use as a rival for standards......QE!
Won't go into details but the "care" my terminally ill father received in QE earlier in the year was appaling. At times it was all I could do to stop myself flipping. Lost my temper a couple of times but managed to contain myself for my mum's sake.
QE looked after my nan and were great IMO , i think at times when we want our loved ones cared for we are very very stressed and particular and quite selfish in our concerns,
Hospitals try to deliver a service under funded and under staffed, unfortunately it is the loved ones that suffer ultimately, for every horror storry there are thousands of good ones
Darenth isn't an isolated hospital, the same can be said of many others. My father in law died before easter and there were mistake after mistake made at 2 hospitals he was unfortuante to be in. The 2 hospitals are in Romford.
At similar time a guy I know, father died in a Maidstone hospital again the virtually the same mistakes.
My fiancee is expecting in November. Recently had a scan there and it was ok apart from my missus having to fill her bladder to better see the baby and she almost wet herself she had to wait for so long. About 2 weeks before that she was having stomach pains and we went there and she was examined and had bloods taken (Quite painfully I may add) and then we went to the Early Pregnancy Unit and the bloke there did a scan for us and confirmed all was ok. So whilst we were made to wait about 6 hours the good news and piece of mind it brought was priceless. Still nervous though that she'll be giving birth there in 6 months time!
Queen Mary is the worst I've been too; it's a depressing building to start off with. I didn't go for very nice reasons, the girlfriend had a breast cancer scare, but in total we were in there 7 hours. I'll give them something though, from seeing the consultant at 9 - they arranged everything; secondary ultrasound and biopsy, and had biopsy results for malignancy back by the time we left. That's pretty impressive.
Darenth Valley there's a few horror stories in the family, yet I haven't had many myself - the only one I was uncounscious for! That said, I know that the psychiatric staff there (who come from the Littlebrook Hospital) are absolutely shocking, which gets them all a bad name. Was a bit in the paper recently about a suicide that happened because the staff accidentally let someone walk out (albeit at Littlebrook, but same staff); and I've had to attend psychiatric emergency assessments with a friend - and his treatment was far far from correct. The emergency doctors are generally good, just not so the nursing staff.
Now if you want a hospital that can balls things up.. look at UCLH! Had a mate go in after impailing his hand on a fence, it wasn't that bad just flesh hanging off of his finger. The first doctor (who's ID was out of date by 2 years!) glued the wound incorrectly (leaving an air bubble below), took too much skin off the area and forgot to give him a tetnus shot, so I immediately took him back. A consultant was called who explained the mistake(s); saying the flesh was essentially dying and that to remove the glue would now remove the flesh due to them having time to bond. Worst thing is, the dressing they applied was awful. I had to go in to Boots on Tottenham Court Road and do it myself so he could get back to his local hospital to have it done properly. Had I not re-done the dressing and applied the correct amount of pressure, he would probably have continued bleeding and it would've been ripe for infection! It was only a semi-deep cut!
And if you do speak out about concerns over conditions you get suspended. Have been following this story a bit recently - relating to the shite hole that is the QE.
That may explain why, in febuary I was given an appointment for 20th august. This guy is my consultant! and very good he is to. But that said, the hospital is a disgrace.
I work for the NHS and my local hospital is the QE. Trust me it's dire.
I take my patients there, and I couldn't agree more. Having said that, some of the staff are fantastic in A&E but their good work is ruined but the rest of them!
Appalling nursing at Darent where my mother went for a hip operation. Left bleeding in bed in a pool of blood for hours. Admitted to QE a few months ago on a Fiday with stomach pains, saw her Saturday evening still in pain but no diagnosis from doctors, still doing tests, left her making arrangements on the phone for her holiday in 7 days time, she was dead by 11am Sunday morning from organ failure. Mystery.
