    Gonzalo Sorondo

Anyway, reminds me of Omozusi for some reason, people thought he was a complete crock of sh*t when he started, but he gradually got better and now I wouldn't mind him, seemed to link up with Racon and Llera well, which is a shame as he'll probably have neither next season.

Is he our first South American player?

Never had a brazilian i know that ;)

He is the first Argentinian to play for us although Juan Cobian was once an unused sub.

As for South Americans what about the legendary Omar Pouso and Gonzalo Sorondo

Oh i forgot about Sorondo! He was an alright player actually. Never got to see Pouso play. So we have never had a Brazilian. Lets end that and sign Kaka eh!

Wasn't impressed with him, I hope we look elsewhere.

Our whole defence as a unit was crap last season.

Bessone didn't look a bad player to me. Think he could be good once fully fit and with a decent/quick central defender next to him.

Other than him..Borrowdale? Ex-players are the flavour of the month after all.

I thought Bessone looked all right. As has been pointed out, with a full pre-season under his belt, he could be a decent player.

Didn't Sorondo get badly injured against Liverpool? Oh, and Dizzle, Sorondo has now taken Brazilian citizenship, by all accounts, so we kind of had a future Brazilian.

His distribution was good (both feet), he joined in the play well on the left and looked comfortable at this level. I was impressed by the way he dealt with Oxlade-Chamberlain in the Southampton game and similarly with the Bristol Rovers right winger in the away game. On both occasions they threatened, looked lively, then limped off after hefty but legal tackles. I liked his old-fashioned or south american mentality of taking an opponent out if necessary.

He has more pace than Borrowdale, but did not cover the back post as well as the QPR player. He was also caught out by long diagonal balls in behind on occasions, particularly against Huddersfield.

So pluses and minuses, but what do you expect from a free transfer in the third division? I'd sign him.

Would rather Borrowdale, think he is more sound defensively and a better all round full back, also decent at set piece delivery. Although still hoping for Youga to come back and show what he did at start of 09/10 (wisful thinking)

would only sign him (and cotton wool joe) on terms that were very heavily reliant on them being fit.

Ken Bates sounding generous? Must be a catch. If Leeds have signed him for 3 years and found out after 8 games that he doesn't fit in with their plans no wonder they are keen to 'sort him out'. I wasn't impressed with him, poor positioning, though he had the pace to recover often, and being a right footed left back surely limits him as an attacking force, I can't remember many overlapping runs. All the noises suggest we are in for him but i'd rather we weren't
Ken Bates is a Charlton hero and I won't have a word said against him.  Didn't he agree to bring a game forward against Chelsea to help our cashflow when the club was in the throes of going out of existance?

I thought Borrowdale was pretty shit. He had a decent delivery on him, but was as slow as Phil Chapple and had the turning circle of an aircraft carrier. Bessone isn't great, but he's better than Borrowdale, and since it looks like we have f***-all money to spend, he'd be a decent signing. Also seems to like the club and, from the look of the sponsors' dinner photos, looks like he enjoys interacting with the fans. We haven't had enough of that since Robbo left a few years back.

If we are to have a 20-25 man squad I wouldn't mind both Bessone and Borrowdale depending on whether Youga is fit as they have very different qualities and we probably need 2 specialist LB's .

I wouldn't be overly upset if Bessone were to sign- but I would take it as a definite marker of just how ambitious (or not) Slater & Co. are going to be.

if we are not going to gamble on the fitness of someone who when in the team, (imo) makes us a much better side and is reportedly on less than £1 a week (anyinsah), then i hope we don't gamble on the fitness of someone (bessone) who can use the remaining 2 years of a championship contract as a bargaining tool.

I'd take Tutt Tutt's opinion over any poster on here.

Just don't mention 'Tippy tappy football' around him. He gets a bit aggressive!

I wouldn't blame Joe being disappointed if he was "reportedly on less than a £1 a week " - and the club still didn't renew his contract ......(!)

The way I see it with Bessone is that we might be able to get better but he certainly isn't a liability. Good on the ball but can get caught out of position. If wages are not too silly we are going to need 2 left backs anyway assuming Youga might never be what he was.
