  • Interesting quotes... you get the impression that the owners have the wherewithal to be quite persuasive as far as their plans for the future go.

Paul Hart is 'Swiss Tony', treating Charlton like a beautiful woman, working her from the bottom up....

Some very interesting things being said there. Saying he was "very excited" by the new owners plans. Really excited for the medium-long term future of us actually. Just need to get the ball rolling and hopefully get promoted this coming season.

Don't start me off, please. I'm liking the whole Paul Hart thing but it's got to be said, he does resemble big bird off sesame street, minus the hair.

Complete re-build & Hart has a very important role to play in it.

You look at his credentials with academy/youth football and you have to ask whether we could have got in anyone better.

valley gold is the way forward ... do it if you can !!
  • its all about putting the right pegs in the right holes, i fear for Powell he aint going to get long to get it right that is one thing that is 100% certain, he will be given the best chance that any manager has had here i reckon, if you consider the support he is getting,

fudge it up and there is no hiding places

I'm not intending to dig out Paul Hart as he is a completely innocent party in all this but in my opinion it's a shame, if he wasn't offered it, that Gritty wasn't offered his old job back if we can now afford someone to do effectively the job he was made redundant from.

Paul Hart is not a longer term appointment than Gritty would be. If anything Gritty is younger.

Time will tell but the Academy didn't do badly under Gritty and he wasn't to blame for the incompetence and excesses of Dowie and Pardew along with waster players brought in who didn't give a toss.

That's all I'm saying really. Innocent victims and all that.

Heard he's just offered £825 a month rent for a semi. Moving in tomorrow.

Yes great appointment of a proven talent at youth level. The big problem for me is there's no link between the youth team & the 1st team. Once a player reaches 18 or whatever if he's not good enough to step straight into the 1st team what happens to them ? They train all week & sit in the stand at the weekends. Players of that age need to be playing to continue their development & match fitness. I don't know if there is a reserve league anymore, it may be that all clubs have disbanded their reserve teams but with 7 players on the subs bench these days surely most clubs could raise a team made up of players not playing on a regular basis + some of the youth team too play regular games rather than one every month or so.

Haven't a lot of teams got rid of reserve teams and replaced them with 'development squads' , not sure how it works, think its along same lines as under 21s with 2/3 other age players in the team, something like that, or iv gone mad and dreamt up the whole thing, pretty sure though

Gritty was not made redundant - his contract ran out and was not renewed.

Possibly, I don't know but can't remember seeing reserve league results for other clubs ? "Development Squads" ? Ha sounds like a modern name for a reserve team lol do they play in a competitive league or is it all friendlies ?

Overall very positive - just a bit worried about the shape of his head.

Excellent move by the club imo. Hart has done wonders at youth level and is widely regarded as one of the best. Well done Charlton!

I think basically yeah modern day reserve teams, it might have something to do with contract status as before the 25 man squad thing you used to have first team, back up/rotational, reserve and youth contracts, with 25 'first team squad' players there's no need for reserve team contracts. Also not sure the use of the reserve team leagues as most teams seem to organise a fair amount of friendlies between themselves.

Rumours doing the rounds he's set for a return to Notts Forest, knew it wouldn't take long he's a first team manager in my eyes and a good one at that.

Disagree.  He's a very good youth coach and not that good a manager IMO

I think he'll realise the grass is a lot greener here

I'm not sure that Hart actually wants to be a manager these days. Personally I think he's much better off where he is, particularly given the contrast between Forest's current position and our own. Hope he stays and that Robinson or Clark get the Forest job.

When is he going to the NW Kent Addicks meeting?

Him and Steve Avory I believe.   Looking forward to hearing what he has to say about the academy so will be gutted if he leaves : - )

I read somewhere (might be programme column) that the job he now has is what he wants to be doing, not managing a team. He's more interested in player development.

Those were his words, not a quote.

Leave it out, as Henry said "He's a very good youth coach and not that good a manager IMO"

  • That one has Clough Jnr written all over it. Think his deal at Derby is up for renewal at the moment so good timing.
