Apologies if this has been done before, but I couldn't find anything.

taken from Dr. Kish

Charlton will play Championship sides Bristol City and Cardiff during their Spanish tour.

Charlton will face the Robins in the town of Lepe, on Tuesday 12 July and could even be facing Therry Racon! Lepe is in south west Spain, close to the border with Portugal and has around 25,000 inhabtants. The town's economy used to be based on the fishing industry but is now famous for its strawberries which are sent all over Europe.

A few miles to the east of Lepe is southern Spain's financial capital, Seville. A city with a population of over 700,000, Seville is renowned for its art and culture.

The Addicks will face Cardiff in the city on Friday 15 July.

Anybody going?

By the way, this is my 100th started discussion!!!

    not that strange.

nice hot conditioning weather, change of scenary and play against english league opposition. not gonna be facing many spanish teams this season.
  • Sorry it might just be me but that doesn't read well. Are we playing cardiff in Seville then?

I am booked into Seville the Saturday night... this could involve some hotel room changes!

Lepe is the town used as a joke reference by spaniards, e.g. A man from Lepe .......(does something carazy or stupid) so it might be a wind up. And as for playing football in Seville in July, lets hope the players have some isotic sports bollox.

Doesn't make it crystal clear, but I'm assuming that we play Cardiff in Seville.

I hope these games are actually open to supporters and not behind closed doors. I've found flights on Easyjet for £115.98 return

Cordoban - I agree totally, though I'm (perhaps optimistically) assuming that it won't be played during the day!

Hmm I'll have to wait for official word and then see if I can add an extra night on/change the hire car (or maybe I might get lucky and it might end up the 16th) but I've got a feeling it may be a pricey amendment!

As for the closed-doors thing, I think they just say that to put people off travelling, should be able to blag in at least

Following a quick google I've come across an interesting snippet in the local Huelva news, dated 29 May:

"Pereira indica que tenía pendiente decidir si se quedaba en el San Roque y que tenía una oferta de los dueños británicos para probar por el Charlton inglés, aunque a su edad, 27 años, entiende que no es necesario realizar tal prueba."

It seems we offered a trial to a 27 year-old San Roque centre mid called Juanjo Pereira (who play in Segunda B so theoretically our level but in Spain there are 4 x regionalised third tier leagues) although it sounds as if he isn't too keen about moving to England.

CP said at Bromley we'd be playing a couple of English sides. Good to see that they are of a better standard than us so should provide a real test. CP was also asked if fans would be allowed in to watch the games and he said he'd have a word with those in charge.

The Spanish leagues don't start until after the English leagues, consequently the Spanish teams are not in training when we are touring.

Am in Albufeira 7th till 14th July, what a touch! It's 1 hour and 15 minutes from there to where we are playing Bristol City.  Car hire for the evening and a satnav.  Can you use SatNav abroad I'm assuming you can??

Go there on quiz night - your missus will enjoy the evening .. and there's a good restaurant just down the road to eat beforehand.

Anyone up for it, send me a private message with numbers and I will see what we can do...
  • For anyone going to the cardiff game i have spoken to the club re. an ambiguity in the information given. the game is not in utrera, it is of the main road from sevilla to utrera and is actually at sevilla atletico's ground in a suburb called Montequinto if anyone is planning.

Sevilla's reserve team stadium?.. Can't find it on the map but found this account with pics:

That is the correct ground swords_alive

For anyone planning a trip, the ground is alternatively named the Ciudad Deportiva José Ramón Cisneros Palacios, which may help when googling and it is located in the SE suburbs of Seville, just outside a district called Montequinto, next to a huge Carrefour hypermarket (stadium is not marked on google maps but if you switch it to satellite view you can clearly see the ground).

It is reachable by bus from the city centre in under half an hour or by metro nearest station is Pablo de Olavide
  • I may be talking to a very limited audience here, or indeed solely to myself, but the bus route above is number 30 runs right past the ground from the bus stops outside Prado, destination Pítamo (though getting off before then, ground visible from road before Universidad Pablo de Olavide)

Any Seville related queries feel free to ask me

Keep it coming - Bus info about  Lepe to Seville would be useful.
