and any of Bent D, Young and Reid were fit for Man U, would you play them or not take a chance on a recurrence of their injuries and get them as fit as possible for West Ham?

I think I'd save them for West Ham and attempt a damage limitation exercise at Old Trafford. The probability of winning or even drawing up there is remote so why take risks with our "quality" players?

    I'd certainly rest Reid

If the others are fit play them especially Young - our goal difference is shocking and we need to keep it down as much as poss.

I dont think Reid will be back for Man Yoo maybe not even West Ham.

As MCS says give them 20 or so if they are fit just to get a bit of match sharpness back.

With Young coming back our back four should be pretty solid.

Notice how Pompey havent won sinced Traore went there :)

If they are not 100% recovered from their specific injuries then don't put them in the starting XI cos of the 2 week break and the fact we are likely to lose anyway.

If they are 100% recovered, but maybe not quite 100% match fit then stick 'em in - at the very least on the bench.

If they are all 100% recovered, I would give Reid and Bent twenty but I would give Luke a full game.

Would give them 15-20 mins, and hopefully Boogie will also be fit to give him a runout before the Wet Spam game.
  • Apparently only Benty has any chance of being fit to play any part at Old Trafford but I can't see Pards risking him there, what would be the point? No, let's try and bore the arse off them and maybe nick a 0-0, its not entertaining but then again that's what the top clubs have to expect since they want to take so much of the revenue pie for themselves.

even having them on the bench will give the players actually on the pitch a lift and maybe a desire to do well because they know there are players to step in and have their places.

if Baby Bent is fit then he must get at least 45 minutes IMO otherwise he's not going to be anywhere near match-fit for the Hamsters game when we need him firing on all cylinders. Training may get you fit but not match fit.

i agree with the benching them approach, if fit.

I've completely wrote Saturday off, a point would be a magic bonus. Our season starts the following game.

  • I'd play Young from the start, and depending on fitness leave DB and Reid on the bench. I'd try and hold Man U for the first 50-60 minutes and then bring on Reid/DB and have a go in the last 20-30 minutes. Try and finish strong after the sting has been taken out of Man U.

Give Bougherra a place on the bench too and ZZ.

Is the sting ever taken out of Man U?
