Think of the wages per game they have paid.

exactly. wait till its a tuesday night up north and absolutely pissing down, then see how handy he looks.

Very true. He's a strange midfielder in that he doesn't seem to fit in any formation but does good things on occasion.

Not a creator, not a tackler. Decent passing.

We signed him on a free I thought?

They signed him on a free? (but presumably on decent wages plus a signing on fee)

When the opposition has the ball it's often 10 against 11. Racon switches off and disappears.
When CP played him wide at the end of the season before last, opposition full backs got behind him on numerous occasions where he failed to cover back. In Central Midfield, Semedo was often left to cover two players, when opponents attacked quickly through the central areas.
Very similar in fact to Bouazza, who was eventually sussed by the crowd at Millwall. It's alright producing the odd flashy moment, but you have to do more than that in a team pattern, especially on the occasions when you are up against it in the frozen north.

Any idea what you were paying him? Doubt we'd be paying much more than £4k!

    You did.

I suspect he could be commanding £250K a year in wages though.

He was allegedly on £6k a week with us.

Yep, Racon was out of contract at Charlton.

So any costs purely between Millwall and the player.

I doubt he'd be on 6k as that would put him right towards the top I think at that time, although not sure how much our wage bill has increased now. He best chip in with some important assits & goals this season then...

Racon looks like a good creative mid in glimpses but you'll get a eureka moment about halfway through the season when you suddenly realise he's got one goal and one asssist in 25 games and has done naff all else.

Good ball player. Quick. Nice control but then he passes backwards. Frustrating!

The £2.6m that we wasted on Raçon was outrageous. We could have paid for Jeffers with that sort of money.
  • We'll see, don't hold out high hopes, but if he's simply a squad player he sounds like he'll do a job.

I always liked Racon, clearly had ability, just doesn't suit the rough British game.

I bracket Racon with Ambrose and Rommedahl - loads of talkent which we never really got to be delivered except on odd occaisions, Ambrose v Ipswich, Rommedahl v Chelsea and Racon back end of his last season with us

The most over-rated player we have ever had.

    Really?!

Ahead of Hasselbaink, Jeffers, Traore? Those sorts of players were talked about on national and international levels. Racon, as far as I'm aware, wasn't really of any major profile before playing Charlton (and he still isn't now he is at Millwall).

Has joined portsmouth on a one month contract. Always liked his technique, but always felt let down by him.
  • Crickey did we really pay 2.6 million for him?

No - £430,000 if my memory serves me correctly

  • Thanks Swisdom.

Interesting reading the first few pages back. Seem to remember he was injured for most of his first season at Millwall.

Was on loan at Pompey last season. Gets to play with Yassin again. Six years ago we were hoping they would help fire us back into the Prem.

He was essentially 'the love child' of Alain Le Pardew when Alain le Man was in the first flush of his French affaire de coeur ... too small, not tough enough, yet still had a go now and then, but really a waste of money ...... Who knows what Ken Le Jacquet saw in him .. good luck to Rock on Racon at Pompeii .. he'll need it

This post says it all about Pardew and his "ability" to spot a player.
