The reason Francis will start against AFCB is because he is our best right back. My prediction is that a few on here will be eating some humble pie next season.
  • Francis and Mcoxo could come good for us this season , well maybe just Francis then , if so hope we will have an awesome squad.

always said francis is a good rb at league one, he ran the game from rb against sheff wednesday at home, and southend he was always really good but i just hope he can do it for us? showed last season he couldn't yet.

Well, i for one am not going to read anything into last seasons performances. New style of football, new players and a clean slate. I too think that Francis will be first choice at least to start and will be down to solly to take it from him. Saying all that though, too late for oxo. Far too much competition and all better than him.

Unfortunately, you need to do more than 'run' one game, largely as a result of a league one season consisting of 46 of the fuckers. I saw him on at least 15 occasions last year and he was complete pony. He can't defend, can't tackle, and has the positional acumen of a cheese sandwich.

I don't understand how anyone can rate francis, fair enough he can cross sometimes, but he's defensive ability is absolute cack, can't tackle, can't header just all round can't defend! I think we need to bring in another RB for Solly to compete with and keep Francis well and truly away from the 1st team

Actually his tackling, pace, heading and crossing isn't that bad, it's more his positional sense, decision making and ball control/retention that lets him down. I think if he can get off to a good start in the season, then the crowd are less likely to turn on him and he can settle into a regular role for us.

Googled READING OKUONGHAE to get a link to say they were interested. Thanks for the sarcastic comment though.

Confused. That wasn't sarcasm - it was a genuine comment! The bloke's nothing but a f***ing great lump. We'd be better off signing Sodje - if Okuonghae signs and ends up being a good player, I'll eat my hat.

Sorry. I've heard he's pretty good but can't help thinking he was first choice instead of Taylor. Hence why Taylor said the deal had been in the pipeline for the past couple of weeks,

I'd like taylor, osbourne and Okuonghae as our 3 main CB's with Daily as backup... and rid of Doc and Francis.

i will be amazed if Francis plays against Bournemouth - in fact, i'll be surprised if he plays for us again. I also can't believe Solly is any taller than 5 '7

Francis is going to play against Bournemouth and I hope he does. He'll do well in a team that isn't struggling and everybody on here will be praising Powell for transfroming him into a good player. I'll have a good sigh and groan when it happens. It frustrates me that when some of our lot latch onto a player being useless they don't let go and fail to look at qualities they possess.

Whilst I agree that Francis did get caught out of position too often, did give the ball away cheaply on occasions and sometimes his crossing wasn't the best. But I also saw him defending well, playing some excellent forward balls and put in some delicious crosses on the run. Whilst I dont think anybody could say he had a great season, he showed me enough to suggest he could be a good and effective player for us. I liked the way he always showed in games where as some of ours went missing.

francis was also the one who made of one our goal of season contenders. pboro at home. made the whole move himself.

Defence should be our No1 priority, particularly if we are going to try and play some decent football this year.

I already have nightmares about watching 44 mins of glorious pass and move football followed by 1 minute of watching us picking the ball out of our own net following a long ball up the middle because our defence is too slow, or too small, or both

I would like to see four 6ft 2" fast beasts across the back (Sam Sodje types).

Height is not everything but this is a very physical league and physical presence is vital. Teams will be looking to rough us up- particularly away from home.

    You're pretty tall, Henry.

You could be just what Powell is looking for .....?

I don't think playing semi-pro in Missouri (very poorly) in the 80s for a few months was enough of a CV to impress him but if you think it will work then post one off to him.

He looked bigger to me and managed to frighten me up in the NWQ.

    Pity we lost him.

Can't see Francis or Solly frightening anyone I'm afraid.

What we need is a Richard Rufus combined with Sam Sodje with the looks of Dean Kiely. That would do the trick...

MO is apparently not in the squad for Col U's first pre-season friendly.   Has he still got a twinge in his toe or is he off somewhere else?
  • any reports on MO?

Well he was linked with Reading, who are now selling Matt Mills to Leicester for five (yes, FIVE) million. So maybe they'll be in for him.
