Agree with above post 100%. Just hope those that want to slag him off at games, get off his back a bit next season - give him a chance to show us what he can do.

Totally agree. Frustrated the hell out of me at games such as Brentford away where he was useless, but from the Spurs game onwards he definitley improved. The key phrase for me is 'There is a good footballer in there somewhere'. I just hope he brings it out more next season and hope 'fans' don't jump straight on his back.

There's deffo a player in Francis somewhere and I've seen enough of him to hope we'll drag it out next year... I's rather we keep him than not I don't see much between him and solly And one of the reasons he'd hoof it forward was there wasn't many options and he'd rather get rid than lose possession And he can wrap his foot around the ball for a decent cross unlike our non crossing winger wagstaff , although he may be better suited elsewhere in the side
    This.

Official Charlton "Scapegoat of the Year".

We all know there are better fullbacks around than Francis,  but this is League 1 for crying out loud.
If we had a better right back, he would have been sold - and Carl Jenkinson was.

Sure, he'd make a mistake or 2 in the match, but show me a League One player who never makes a mistake?
But Francis is hardworking and willing to get up and down the line as often as possible.

His crossing could be a bit hit and miss, but when it came off it was very decent.
In fact I'd say Francis often offered our best attacking threat.

We had more penetration going forward with Francis in the side, than ever we did when he wasn't playing.

He got off to a poor start due to missing pre-season training but gradually improved.
Like a lot of players at this level ....... Francis is as good as the players around him.
agree with your post 100% hes not a bad player will do a job for Ballmouth

One of those players where you feel there is a good player there trying to get out.

Unfortunately for me it was nothing to do with his getting into good positions but then failing to deliver, He looks ok going forwards but that's not his main job. His biggest problem is too many stupid unforced errors losing the ball needlessly and often costing us dear.

Yes I know we're in a poor league where players make mistakes but for me he made too many, many of which were kids stuff. All the defenders made mistakes last year but his were more and worse imo.

Would love to see him come good though.

You will undoubtedly realise how bad McCormack is as a player quite quickly, but so long as you never, ever, look at Twitter you may not realise how little he cares about your club. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

the old 'he didnt have anyone to pass to excuse' doesnt cut it with me.

francis never even takes the time to get his head up. countless times last season he would have time but it was like someone taps him on the head and that big size 10 foot comes out and smashes it as hard as he can.

no composure at all. even if the fella was on a £10 a week, id still offload him and free up the money for someone else. cant stand him as a footballer.

I never really found anything to dislike about him, but he just wasn't Fraser. He did okay, just not really good enough.

Good luck to him where ever he goes.

I think following on from Fraser Richardson and having Solly in the background did him no favours. He had to replace a fan favourite (and very good player) and 'one of ours' was being kept out, so people cut him much less slack re: pre-season than maybe others would have got. Not to say he was particularly good, and even when/if he brings his A-game I doubt he'll be any better than 'decent' but by no means is he awful.

Another point which people may have overlooked ....... Francis' wife had a baby early last Autumn.

Now all of us who are parents will remember the eternal sleepless nights suffered when you've just had a newborn baby.
It can go on for months, there is no escape!

You're always feeling jaded. Then the missus is always tired and worn out, and often suffering post natal depression.
So she's hard to handle too. It gets better when the baby eventually goes through the night.

What do you reckon, AFKA?   ;o)

PS: Be nice to Danny Hollands. His missus is due TRIPLETS in Niovember !!

My overriding memory of Francis last season was him legging it back in desperate chase of an opposition player after being caught in possession or misplacing another pass. Oh, and a couple of good crosses.

Just had a look to see what was going on in this 'Charlton web chat', the journalist (Iain Liddle) seems to think Francis will be going.

    IainLiddle_CAFC:
Luke asked - "Hi, Do you think Simon Francis will still be at the club when we play Bournemouth? Do you think he is good enough to be in a team going for promotion? "

    IainLiddle_CAFC:
The indications are that Francis is wanted by Bournemouth. That was certainly reported onthe South Coast late last week. Francis ads experience, which will be vital among a young side of whom so much will be expected. Gut instinct is that he won't be there, but it's hard to say either way. Personally, I think he would benefit the squad, and Chris Solly, to keep him around.

Is there another Bournemouth player we could do with...? Wasn't their keeper Swaun Jalal mentioned somewhere?

Surely they have the Wiggins cash to splash around.

Maybe we should have included him in the deal maybe Wiggins would've been cheaper...

we paid 30k and he wasn't worth that. I'd take anything above £0.00

If we sell him we'll have to replace him. And that will cost a lot more than the fee we'd recoup for him if people are expecting someone better.

This is a club that for three years has been on the edge of disaster.
The reason they are having a clear-out is to pay off debts. The belief that Arry might be true to his word and one day ride in and save them is increasingly looking like the dream it always was.
Lat year was just amazing for them.
But splash and cash are not really associated with AFCB

Could get someone on loan or how do we know CP hasn't got the funds to replace him with someone better?

Not the best but I'd say not the worst. Really adds a threat going forward as he can cross the ball probably the best out of last seasons squad, it's the silly mistakes in defence that shoot him down. He often loses the ball in possesion when there is no need.

Personally I would have tried him on the wing towards the end of the season. I'd like to see him to stay and I reckon CP could develop him.

Simon tries hard. If we've still got money left after 2 new CBs, and a new striker, then maybe we can see if there's a better option at RB. If he's still here in August I do hope he gets our support.
