The ten year bet - anyone remember?

Does anyone remember a wager that was made on-line (perhaps on CL or on NetAddicks) about where Charlton would be ten years on.

One party stated that we would not be back in the Premier league and bet £100 (I think) to that end.  Another poster took the bet.

So who was it, when was it, where was it, how much was it?

Henry old bean......the answer to this question is nowhere near as intriguing as to your reluctance to post in the Cardigan thread?

For the record the bet was

    OK, so we are clear.

If by the end of the 2018/19 season Charlton
have not been promoted from the Cola Cola Championship (level II)to the
Premier League (Level I) then off it will pay £1000 to Charity.

If Charlton have been promoted from said level to said higher level then Oahahh will pay £1000 to Charity.

Bet null and void if league is re-arranged in such a way to make promotion impossible.

And may the best man will.

Thought it was Ooh Aah and Off It but wasn't sure.

Hard to say.  What made me think of it was the takeover seems to be going well but will we get promoted twice in 6 seasons?

Seems possible but definitely not guarenteed.

We could quite easily be in the Premiership within 2 or 3 years but of course - there is always the risk of relegation before the 10 years is up - I would say the odds are 70% Championship, 25% Premiership and 5% League One.

Doesn't matter if we go up to prem and then come down.  Bet was we would not reach Prem in ten years.

To start with I thought Off It, last couple of seasons Ohh Arrh and now Off It again. A great bet!

ok, I think I'd up teh Premiership to 40% then - possibly 50%. When you look at the Championship  - it doesn't look that strong. Norwich went up last season and Saints look like they will this.

But doesn't ooh aah say 'unless we get relegated to division 1', which we have, so he's off the hook even if we get promoted twice.

ooh aah qualified the bet and i don't see any retraction of that qualification and although you tried to clarify things i don't see where he agreed to it unless your taking his satement 'My arse is bleeding' as acceptance?

Your right. I've re read it and noticed his later post - ignore me, i'll try and find some work to do
  • my arse bleeding is a separate issue to the bet

but i was talking about promotion and was specifying promotion to the 2nd tier from the 3rd was not the deal , promotion to the prem was what it's all about

Any news on the real ale sales at the last home game? I think Paul Ellison is just trying to avoid buying me the pint he promised me if it was a success.

Not worried really, it's up to them but i agree it would be a shame. Even if its making a loss, which can't be much, if it keeps some of our fans happy i don't see what the big deal is.

Depends how big the loss is.  Paul will have profit targets to meet so he'd have to get any loss making operation signed off by his boss.

And while there's a bit more money about for the playing side the non-playing budget hasn't been changed that much as far as I know (which isn't a lot) and departments have to wipe their own faces at least.

Unfortunately an excellent initiative is likely to suffer because of the inefficiency of the bar staff.

The only realistic time to buy a pint is before the match as the queues are prohibitive at half time.

Call me unreasonable and a misery if you like but I buy my season ticket to watch the football and do not see why I should miss the game to buy refreshments.
