Where is Dale Stephens!

If fit surely he'd be on the bench ahead of Euell. Is his niggling injury worse than they have been letting on?

And why all this hero worshipping of Euell. He has yet to do anything to suggest he should even be on the bench. I hope one day we don't rely on him in a situation where we need him to make an impact.

he will score a vital goal at some point this season mark my words.

  • Stephens is hiding out with Alonso..
  • Stephens has had a slight knock recently according to CAFC on twitter. Guessing they can wait till he's 100% before bringing him back into squad with results going the way they are.
  • Stephens will come back hungrier than ever he is a young talent that needs nurturing correctly

Expect to see him start in the cup - a brilliant problem for Chrissy and a great opportunity to get Dale right for when we need him. At the moment, I think Hughes has been a revelation -showed his experience at times today too. Sir Chris is a genius IMO.

Stephens and Alonso to start in centre mid in the cup game, Ruben Bover at left mid, Waggy at the right. Cort and Doherty central defence with evina left back, maybe cousins at right back?

Hayes and Euell then to start up front.

Well of course you are right there were plenty of positives and they far, far outweigh the negatives but there were a couple of negatives nonetheless.

I wouldn't worry about Stephens. He will be back before long. As for Jason Euell , he scored 34 premier league goals for Charlton so that makes him a bit of a legend. Having said that i don't think he will make much of an impact up front any more but he certainly can do a job in midfield.

One bad thing with having SCP managing us is that I don't feel qualified to question his decisions anymore. Hughes wouldn't have got anywhere near my first team - and what a crap call that would have been!!! Whatever line up he picks- including the bench is good enough for me- Euell is there for a reason and I'll back Sir Christopher's choices over any of ours any day.

I quite enjoyed thinking I could pick a better side - thanks a lot Chrissy!!!
  • Stephens warmed up with the rest of the squad this afternoon as did Evina. I expect to see both back in the sixteen when Chris Powell decides that it is right and proper to do so.

I would like to see him back in the squad at least but I'm not the most popular and successful Charlton manager since I don't know when, so I'll trust Mr Powell's judgement on this one!

I think Stephens partner still lives up in the north west, maybe CP has let him have some time off to travel up during the week. Also Hughes has come in and done well, plus there's still Alonso who I'm hoping gets a game next week

Yes, Alonso - if it makes any sense,I thought he was rubbish against Brentford in a way that suggested he could be very good when he is fully fit and up to speed with the English game.

The sprints he was doing infront of the east stand with Evina would suggest otherwise.

Reams on IntoTheValley is suggesting he could be going in January.

Then again he also said he was absolutely certain that Bover would surpass Shelvey and become the new Scott Parker.

Did he mention what the Lotto numbers will be this tuesday? Joking aside, Let's wait and see what happens.
  • Agree with Large that despite the overwhelming positives from yesterday it has to be acknowledged that there were some negatives too. Conceding two goals was IMHO largely down to lack of concentration and I hope CP jumps on that like a ton of bricks. As for the bench. Well it looks hugely experienced and that can only be a positive.
  • Unfortunately I've not managed to get to any of the games since Hughes broke into the team so can anyone tell me if its any coincidence that we've started winning by larger scorelines? I can imagine that Hughes and Hollands could dominate the centre midfield better than Stephens/Hollands so does it give Jackson and Green a bit more licence to be playmakers? From the games I've been too I've been impressed with Stephens going forward, especially his passing and movement. When they're both fit, perhaps he could play more against teams that just shut up shop as he is far more likely to score or assist while Hughes plays more against the physically tougher teams such as Stevenage.

Hughes does a Keith Jones type job, which goes largely unnoticed,  I don't think it is a coincidence.  Although he is not attacking minded he allows Hollands to be and merely gets the ball breaks up attackes and allows others to do the creative work.  he is not a natural in that position and if what has been said about Alonso is right then he is a stop gap but a good one at that.

    Yeah, but he's a twat.
Whats the basis for him leaving according to reams?
  • He says he cant elaborate as will be 'betraying the trust' of whoever told him, but appears to be something to do with family problems, and is unsettled down south.

Think Stephens is the sort of player who will shine on a more regular basis in the Championship. Really glad we've got him.

On the basis of him being a twat, I don't bother to read his site.
