Decent, cheap laptop - nothing fancy

edited November 2011 in Not Sports Related
Anyone got any recommendations?

Don't need it for anything other than internet (ahem) surfing, online shopping and sending the odd email. Size not important (ooeerr) but want it to be reasonably quick.

Current laptop is more or less f**ked now, though has served me well for past 3 or 4 years and does everything I need it to do - just very slowly now. (The fact it's that old tells you I don't need/use it for a lot)

Cheers

  • Try Morgan Computers for end of line type stuff http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/

Other good online sites include ebuyer, Dabs (if they still exist) or Scan.
  • Don't buy from laptop direct.
  • Similar Toshiba to the one I'm using is £280 in Argos
  • John Lewis in Bluewater usually have some half decent ones. Picked up an Acer for £350 with not a bad spec
  • Don't buy from laptop direct.
Hmm...my mum bought a laptop from there a few years ago - didn't work at first, but tbf, they did sort it out...

  • JL give a two year warranty which is worth having. I just bought the cheapest thing they had, a Compaq, which I use every day for work and it's still going fine almost 3 years on.
Battery life is starting to shorten, but I think they all do that over time.
  • If battery life is important, in my experience, ACER batteries deteriorate quickly. The laptops themselves seem really good for the money.

Laptops Direct supplied my sons first laptop - he had no problems.
  • Dabs are still very much on the go....http://www.dabs.com/
