A part of Saturday evenings is lost...

...as Final Score voice Tim Gudgen retires after 6 decades.
I am sure I am not alone having very early memories of his intonation and warmth on winters evenings.

He supported Palace, sadly.

  • Pools panel, away win.
  • Forfar four....
  • Used to know him and his twin daughters when they lived in Tunbridge Wells (they were all nice people) - never knew that he supported Palace, but then again, he was from Croydon.

He's only done the football results for the last 16 years. It was Len Martin who was did them from when Grandstand started until his death in 1994. Gudgin did the rubgy and Horse racing results when Martin was around .No one said "nil" like Len Martin!

It's horse racing I always associate his voice with, he wasn't doing the football when I used excitedly used to watch Final Score, waiting for The Basil Brush Show!

He's decided to quit now rather than the end of the season as he needs to be in Australia next month for his grandaughters wedding and also doesn't fancy commuting to Slaford when BBC Sport move there.
