Most have been mentioned already, but here goes..............

    Blair witch project

    Black Swan

    Lord of the rings

    Pirates of the carribean

    Inception

All the later Star wars movies (would probably include 1st 3 if i hadn't have fallen under Lucas' spell as a child)

Almost forgot the Matrix (how I wish I could).

Blimey Stig, you have sat through a lot of crap. Didn't you realise you didn't like any of them after the first installment of each series? Glutton for punishment is the expression I would use...
Forced viewing as our kid loves them all.
  • All of m.shalyamans films, the village the happening, signs, the i see dead people one, guff yet he is hailed as some kind of geneius.

    The Matrix trilogy was nonsensical
    The Pirates' series was absurd
Never seen Lord of the Rings trilogy so won't comment

But the most overhyped film and overrated film of all time ......

    The Da Vinci Code

Every film in the Star Wars series
Every film in the Harry Potter series
Every film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series
Every film that was ever made in 3D

Potter films; dreadful acting from annoying stage school kids
  • Agreed. The acting from the children in the Potter films was abysmal.

Generally I try and avoid reading reviews before seeing films. I think it's the best way to avoid being influenced by the hype and therefore being underwhelmed. Expectations are everything.

  • Lost in translation.   I spent the whole film waiting for something to happen. It didnt

  • I think the twist at the end of Fight Club is brilliant, watch it again and everything falls in to place.

Was the film that hyped-up?  No doubt that the book was, but I remember being surprised that I hadn't heard as much about the film as I thought I would.

I know a lot of people slated the film (and the book), but I thought it was alright.  I just wished Ian McKellern hadn't played the Teabing character.  Not because he was bat, but because he was a million miles away from how I'd imagined it on reading (more Matt Lucas for me).

Anchorman is a work of art, but the Hangover is OVERRATED

Anyone who thinks Hangover is a great film are the sort of people who inflict platitudes on people in lifts. Good idea for a film but i could have made it and written it far better myself. (can feel a semedo style debate coming on)

Anchorman is a classic comedy just for the scene where they burst into song - Afternoon Delight .
  • The Matrix - tedious philosophy for geeks with bad acting thrown in.

I actually thought it was pretty well written, however everything else was very mediocre.

    Gone with the Wind
  • Citizen Kane.

Always comes out near or at the top of critics lists but really don't get it myself.

    Citizen Kane.

it was a film that used a bunch of revolutionary techniques (especially in cinematography) that have been used countlessly since. The thing is about old classics like that is you don't see what's so special about them, since what they were special for at the time have been copied by just about every film since.
