Go to The Luxor, you'll never regret it.

A vote for the Luxor from me as well.

Luxor is a bit out of the way. Have stayed at MGM Grand and Sahara. Both were nice. A good bet is the Imperial Palace. Not as flashy, very reasonable but slap bang in the middle of the strip.

excalibur's good & i think is one of the cheaper hotels up that end.

MGM is best located as you have the train thing that takes you up and down the strip. I stayed in Excalibur very nice but a bit dated. I thought the circus circus looked horrible though. Saying that it doesnt really matter where you stay as you spend sod all time in your room anyway. Also if you fancy getting married I recommend the Tropicana thats where I got married :)

Las Vegas is the best place on earth I need to get back there, this time without the wife though :)

They are all amazing in their own way. Stayed in the Bellagio. Very elegant and their musical fountains are one of the highlights of the Strip. The Wynn is very uber-cool as well. Seemed to recall that it even air-conditioned the pavement outside the hotel (only in Vegas) and had a nice Ferrari showroom outside the casino when you fancy cashing in your massive winnings!! The giant singing frog is something else as well.

Wherever you end up you'll never forget the experience. It is truly amazing fun!

For me The Wynn is far and away the best hotel in Vegas...brand spanking new, impeccable service, phenomenal location, great in-house gaming, eating, shopping and night life under one roof.

I stayed at the Flamingo, reasonable price and as an earlier poster said you spend sod all time in your room.

Enjoyed it when I first went in 1982, when it was still splendidly seedy and tacky. My father lived out there and I went every year on a duty visit until 1997, when he died.

During those years  I watched the place go steadily upmarket (and therefore, IMO, aesthetically downhill ! ), and when I last went in 2008 I thought it was hell on earth, with familes traipsing up and down the strip looking at the 'attractions' like it was ruddy Disneyland, rather than a serious den of vice and corruption. Horrible!

I agree with the above, but it depends on what you are looking for. All hotels provide easy access to the strip so I suppose you can either stay in a cheaper one if you are on a tight budget or splash out a bit if you want to make it really special.

If you fancy an experience, try the helicopter over the Grand Canyon or the rides at the top of the Stratasphere. Have a great time.

Depends how much you want to pay. Where I've mentioned 'wrong end of the strip' below that is my opinion and means quieter. So, if you want quiet then that could be your cup of tea.

Wynns - top notch but the wrong end of the strip. Expensive.

Bellagio - very elegant and expensive. Would probably be my choice if the price was right. (you can find deals)

Caesars - a bit down market from Bellagio. Getting towards the wrong end of the strip.

MGM, New York New York - very similar. Lots going on. Right in the thick of the Strip. Deals to be had.

Luxor - quieter. Not one of my favorites

Excaliber - next to Luxor. Low end but good if you're younger and/or on a budget. Near New York New York

    Circus Circus - avoid

Monte Carlo - good. Modern and in a good spot on the Strip.

Other good ones - Paris Paris. The Venetian (wrong end of the strip though).

While you're there a good night club to go to is the Playboy Club at the top of the Palms Hotel. Truly spectacular. The women can get in free but blokes pay through the nose a bit.

    Good luck.  :-)

There's a few threads on here about Vegas if you search. Amazing place.

If you're going in late 2012, you're very prepared! If you leave it last minute (i'm talking less than a week beforehand), try www.hotwire.com. You can get all the big hotels for around half price, my friend got a 10 person suite in the Bellagio for £90 a night, it's usually over a grand. The hotels are anonymised until after you pay, but you can do a google search which can tell you the spec of each one so you can be 90% sure of what you're booking before you pay if you do your research.

I liked the MGM Grand personally, Stratosphere is down the wrong end of the strip but OK if you want somewhere a bit cheap. Not sure how old you are, but if under 30, you must go to one of the pool parties in the resorts. We went to the one in the MGM, like another world - called "F*** me I'm famous" after the Ibiza club, it's fair to say that the shades came in handy given the bikinis that were on display!

Am I the only one who opened this expecting a different subject?!

Bellagio and Monte Carlo both excellent for me but Wynn was new when I last went and looked amazing

If you're there over new years eye you could do worse than head to Stratosphere for a meal and then watch the fireworks going down the strip to music. Amazing sight

My other tip - take in Lance Burtons magic show. Fabulous entertainment

    Mirage!

I've stayed at the Stratosphere, Luxor, Caesars and Mirage. Caesars was definitely the best for location, Mirage had the best rooms (I upgraded), Stratosphere is miles away but cheap as chips. Luxor was ok but just didn't do it for me.

    Love it out there.

Have stayed at New York New York which was excellent and last month at the Palms that has four clubs on site including Playboy, only downside is you'll need a short cab ride to the strip.

    Cosmopolitan for me

Rooms were nice at the Luxor, price was great, but food was so-so (quantity over quality) and the constant stream of "vouchers, vouchers" timeshare hawkers gave the place a bit of a downmarket feel for me.

Stayed at several of the above. Surprised no ones mentioned the Hard Rock. Definately the best for me. A bit off the track but easy to jump in a cab to the strip
