  • where did you play ??

As for the Open - its often won by a outsider (by that I mean not a top 10 name ) - not sure Donald can play links golf & Woods will never be the same again.
im from the usa, so im pretty sure you wont recognize these courses... but i played at Fresh Meadows located in Westchester, IL and at White Pines West GC located in Bensenville, IL (both close to chicago, IL)...

and i do think woods is the favorite cuz he has already won 3 events this year, no1 in the pga standings and hes playing some top quality golf lately on the pga tour... if u had to guess golfaddick, who do u like for the open championship ???
  • No idea - but not an American who can't play links golf !! Something very special about links courses and unless you can play chip & runs and can play in gusty & rainy weather then you can forget it. I hear the rough is very severe this week & anyone not straight off the tee may find it hard just even finding their ball !!

Harrington could be a good bet
  • I fancy Westwood. Rough is going to be terrible - if he putts and chips ok and drives it long and straight the weather should ensure around level par won't be far away.
  • Talking about "our" golf for a minute - I'm getting seriously narked mates as I play off 18.7 due to being a member at The Addington and two weeks ago, off 16 at a Society Golf Day I romped home with 43 points shooting +10.

They're now refusing to let me play off anything more than 15!

too right bandit !! Anyone who can get 43 points playing off 16, when their handicap is 19 deserves to get cut
  • What's the best way of organising a trip over to Spain Portugal for a few days golf an sun. Any package specialists anyone can recommend?

    i'm suffering from something similar.
play off 15 at my club, but now off 10 on society days due to the system we have.

Hi Alicanteman, will be in Cuidad quesada next month, think it is just south of alicante, any suggestions of suitable courses to play at where we can hire a set of clubs and wont cost us a fortune? thanks

  • Hi BFP - golfcostablanca.org/?page_id=4&lang=en
I believe La Marquesa is just down the road from Ciudad Quesada and a relatively new course i´d recommend is Las Colinas Golf & Country Club. Click on the white golf balls on the map (link above) for further details on each course. I assume you will be able to hire clubs but best to ask first! You should be able to negotiate a good price with the clubs due to the economic crisis here ...! I do have a contact at Las Colinas so if you decide to go there give me a shout and I´ll try and get you a good discount. Feel free to pm if you require any further details.

  • Anyone Played Hemsted forest at Cranbrook playing next Friday.

Played Stoke by Nayland the other week and was terrible so hoping for an easier fair this time round

I've played Hempsted Forest a couple of times over the last few years. Not particularly long but mainly tree lined fairways so you have to be straight - not as open as Stoke by Nayland either !!
  • Played Toot Hill in Essex a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely beautiful course - well worth the trek from Surrey
  • How did you do on the 12 Leroy? Island Green?

I have my work society there every year
  • I'm playing Mentmore tomorrow in an industry golf day. They're allowing me 19. Game on!

for organized events, do handicaps always come into play?

  • yes usually - I have no official handicap as I do not currently belong to a club - last one expired over 5 yrs ago & at that time I was playing off 18.7. Any corporate/society events I attend I usually play off 19, although my real handicap is probably now over 20.
  • Toot hill brilliant course and the bar maid who lives above the bar is mint

toot hill is alright, you have the island hole which looks great but that, like the whole course is a bit on the short side.

played hever castle last week, that was really good, very enjoyable

  • DKB - par. Annoyingly, I put my tee shot to within three feet and left the birdie putt short. Blobbed three holes but went round in 86 for 32 points. Pleased, considering I've never played the course and it was rodding it down for the first 16 holes. Will definitely make the trip again - as good as Kingswood, and superb value
  • Played Moor Park in Rickmansworth yesterday - very nice place, playing the Twenty Ten and the Roman Road at Celtic Manor in a couple of weeks and also got Crondon Park (I think that's what it's called) in Essex soon as well, supposedly got one of the longest par 5's anywhere
  • Played all those courses (apart from the 2010 at Celtic manor, but instead I've played the members course and the original championship couse there before Monty changed it)

I believe that long par 5 at Crondon Park is around 600 yards off the back tees.............
  • My picture is off my hole-in-one at the Par 3 7th at Crondon Park last year.
The 18th Par 5 is on the card at 647 yards but is rarely played off the extended back tee. I think the tee has been moved back to give the yardage and to provide a talking point rather than to improve the course.

congrats on the hole-in-one! sweet pic
  • Winter rules at Mentmore yesterday - in the middle of July! Ridiculous Summer we're having. Rough extra thick, very tough track off the whites. We played off the yellows which made it fairer for a society.

Thanks. Not sure about the "sweet" comment though.

Just been listening to some coverage on radio five. John Inverdale must be the most pompous twat the BBC has and that's saying something. He totally ruins the coverage.
  • playing Royal Blackheath tonight for the first time. 4 of my mates have just been accepted for membership. Not cheap.
