I am due to attend a close friends wedding on Saturday. The wife is matron of honour, so I will also be in sole charge of the kids until the reception. I can't see a way out of this one, short of a sudden cancellation. As tempted as I am to get a photo of the groom and photoshop Katie Price into it on his lap I can't do it! Anyone else got a hard luck story meaning they miss the game of the season or am I really THE unlucky one.......

the couple can't be that close friends otherwise they would know not to get married during the footie season !! They have May through to August to get married, so why pick freezing January !! Some people just have no consideration for others !!!
  • Amen to that! (close friends by association with wife, not football fans......meh)

An old friend is going to China for 6 months.
Guess what day she picked for her leaving party?
And its an afternoon do, in bloody Ramsgate.
    :(
  • Buy them 2 tickets for Gretna Green dated Friday 20th Jan & tell them it'll be SO much more romantic.
  • Just look really really sad and be very quiet and when she asks you what the matter is say "oh nothing..." in a tiny little voice and get on with some bogus job around the house or other...no, it never works for me either, but it always seems to work the other way round...

I feel your pain there CHG, I am booked in for a Stag in Berlin on the weekend of Carlisle away. I'm shitting myself that that'll be the game we clinch promotion and I'll miss the party, or have to fork out a fortune for a Saturday morning flight to Glasgow! It's still 3 months away but I'm worrying. Praying we get up before then!

Hmm, we always get promotion at Carlisle, it's an unwritten rule.

That's what I'm worried about. Still, we ain't won anything yet as Chrissy would advise us, so this promotion-party-planning motif is premature.

Can't get down from Scotland - was ill before Christmas, and didn't get signed off by docs until a few days ago, by which time flight and train prices were crazy. Also got some other commitments here now at weekend. Will have to make do with consolation of getting down for Rochdale instead - somehow not quite the same!!

Will be stuck up in Yorkshire, working. Only consolation is my mate, Big Dave the Blade has to work with me so will have our own banter battle going on. Won't be far from the BBC website for updates!

I am exiled in Hong Kong where there is wall to wall premiership coverage not not even a Chinese whisper of League 1.

Brother of Grumpy is going but tends to be the kiss of death on all home performances.

More hunching over the laptop at 2am trying to make some sense of the CATV Player commentary again.

    Its no sort of life.

Have told my kids who will be there just keep texting updates to me, will try phone on plane, might get lucky!!!

Well to say i live quite far from the valley is a bit of an exaggeration as i live in balham (south london) but it's more i would much rather go with my dad/mates or whoever.
  • I am so miserable that i can not be in the north stand on saturday, i have decided to use the companies Director tickets and pacakage and scoff my face in the West with NLJR
  • Live in China so have this feeling every week :'(

Can't get my call-out covered but as long as the phone doesn't go off in the morning I'll still be there.
  • They've had a row before the rehearsal tonight! I've told the wife to stir the pot and make a pass at the groom, and if that don't work, the bride! Fingers crossed!
