How come there are players from NI being considered for team GB? Northern Ireland is not part of Great Britain.
technically correct however Great Britain is the name under which the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland competes at the Olympic Games

After the Good Friday agreement, competitors from Northern Ireland can choose between competing for GB or the Republic of Ireland in the Olympics.
In football, many players from N Ireland (presumably Catholics) have chosen to play for the Republic as the are allowed to do now, e.g. Darron Gibson and McLean, so I presume they then couldn't play for GB in the Olympics.

uk - england ,scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland,
British Isles - as Uk plus the Isle of Man etc and Southern Ireland/Ireland/Eire

The Irish don't consider Eire to be in the British isles and in the good Friday agreement they refer to 'these islands' to avoid controversy0

The first is incorrect (though I thought Wales was technically a Principality?), but the second is correct. Canada and Australia are two prominent examples of Commonwealth nations who recognise the Queen, but are politically independent.0

Shame but not much of a surprise. To be a League One right-back making it into the initial list is an honour in itself, fair play to the lad.
Hopefully his morale won't be hit too hard. Even if it has then it will be picked up when he is rightfully voted Charlton player of the year.0 -

Agree, he should feel proud to have made the list. Hope he keeps the letter to go alongside the one he's going to get calling him up for England one day0
