    Giants!
I've been a big blue supporter for about 7 years. Would love to see them play.
Going to wear my Manning jersey and drink lots of bud. Yank it up.
  • Hate 'em both. Hate Brady (the American Football version of Phil Mickelson) and the majority of Giants fans are almost universally acknowledged as being second only to Cowboys fans in the obnoxiousness stakes. If I had to choose, it would be the Patriots, just because their offense is fun to watch - and Welker & Gronkowski are awesome.

I know zilch about American Football but I'm off tomorrow so I fancy sitting up and watching it. To make things interesting I'm going to have a bet - anybody in the know please advise me of which team I should have my money on ?

I will be doing my annual ritual of staying up to watch it. Not particularly fond of either however as I am anti NY sports teams (apart from the Mets) I will go for the Pats.

I want to stay up to watch it but my mum says it's a school night. Come on you giants!

I'm a Chiefs fan so I'm used to having to find a 'second team' come the Superbowl. Pats seem less in your face than the Giants so I'll go with the Brady bunch. Revenge for Superbowl XLII.

I know nothing about 'Gridiron' but find myself in NY this weekend (Brooklyn to be precise) and it's impossible to avoid it, as you'd expect. They seem to be obsessing about (a) what adverts will be shown during the breaks and (b) what Madonna will get up to.
  • Can't support patriots after the 'tuck rule' game and also there known cheating in other games. Don't like NY teams as their fans and media are the worse losers going. So by a thin wedge it will be the Giants only because they are not the patriots
  • Pats for me.
  • Giants for moi

Giants have to lose as I said to someone that Giants are failing and wont win this year
  • Patriots!

Don't wanna see a NFC East Division rival gain another SuperBowl.

Sometimes I can't quite figure out if you're for real, or on some kind of a wind-up.

Or, maybe, you've discovered a system! Yes - that's it. Every two horse race where there HAS to be a result, just bet on both teams! Easy money! Guaranteed profit!

You don't play poker do you, by any chance? Fancy a heads-up game? Bring your wallet (and the keys to your car)

He bought 8 bottles of Coke for a pound or something yesterday Leroy. I'd put it down to a sugar OD.

    Tomorrow it's Haribo's apparently.

    Live the dream Nathan.

I did have a smile when I saw that . Obviously both teams won't be profitable but this may not be as silly as it sounds . There are a few web sites that scour tennis matches ( and other sports ) where if you back both teams you can make a profit on both outcomes . it's called Arbatridge betting and it requires a lot of trawling betting web sites looking for the best prices . Specialised Arbatridge sites do the work
for you but it involves a monthly fee .

Found some odd bets on Ladbrokes:

Madonna to have a 'wardrobe malfunction' during the half time show @ 6/1

Kelly Clarkson to sing the wrong words during the US National Anthem @4/1

Also a good one, Patriots over 92.5 yards rushing throughout the game @ 10/11

Either QB to pass over 400 yards @3/1..most games I've seen are at around the 300/350 yard mark, so it's not impossible to do

The sad thing is I understand the first two bets but the second two might as well be in Japanese !

Rushing is where the ball gets passed to the running back and they basically leg it with the ball and try and gain yards that way (basically an alternitave to passing)

QB passing is where they throw the ball to the recievers, so over 400 yards is a bit adventurous but is possible to do

Arbitrage betting, you mean. And most people that advertise arbing for a fee are con-men. It IS possible to arb bet and make a profit, but the drawbacks and risk involved are too great (bookies will rinse you dry if they suspect it's going on and you could end up, very, very out of pocket indeed). I suspect what Nathan was getting at is that if you bet each way on a two-horse race, one of the bets, by definition 'has' to win. The unfortunate (and probably unforeseen, from the look of the post) is that Nathan has failed to do his maths properly and ignored the stake money on the other bet :o)

And don't, for the love of God, DON'T take his advice on passing yardage. The Superbowl does NOT produce high-scoring, offensive games as a rule. Every now and then there will be one, but most of them are tight, defensive affairs, where clock management is of paramount importance, and the 'Ground And Pound' style of offense is usually to the fore. Of course, the Patriots DO have a high-powered offense, but the last time they got to the superbowl against the Giants, they inarguably has a better team offensively - and struggled to move the ball all game as the Giants shut them down. Even when Manning has a good game in the air, he doesn't often throw for over 400 yards.

They also have a piss-poor running game, although, admittedly, most of the time they haven't needed to use it - they were awful for most of the year trying to move the ball on the ground, and generally just use it as a way to mix up their passing, rather thn as an integral part of their offense. However, 92 yards is quite low even for them Pats, so that's a more realistic bet.

In short - DON'T bet on sports you don't understand.

100% agree about The Giants! I bloody hate them and that horrible little man they have as head coach!

They lost to the Redskins twice this season, and I hope the Pats do them too!

  • Was down in Superbowl village last night it was rocking. I like the pats not only because the Indy colts hate them which seems to be only because Brady better looking and had more Superbowl rings. And also the giants are the richmans team in Ny/Nj the jets are the working mans team so go pats and hope all u giants fans who came by learjet I hope they charge u double.
