    Of course it was serious - it's what the stats show us! We've all said complacency is our biggest enemy...and this just proves it.
    But we dont need E# and sums of numbers to wins ratios do we. If Man Utd lose all their remaining games and Wigan win all theirs they will be level on points with Man Utd at the end of the season.

    Football fans up and down the country and all over the world do this excersise week in week out.

    Sorry, but I was expecting more from the original post.

    The magic number is a very American way of counting down the games until your team wins the league. It is quoted constantly in the American press when talking about the closing stages of the baseball season. I think it is a great statistic & it's fun to watch your number slowly reduce to zero, when the title is assured. I say go for it lordromford, please keep us updated with our magic number as the season progresses.

    Keep on updating on a match-by-match basis please lordromford. I need to tick off my targets.

    Target #1 - Avoid Relegation
    Target #2 - Guaranteed Playoff Place
    Target #3 - Guaranteed Promotion
    Target #4 - Guaranteed Promotion as Champions

    Sorry Lord Romford, I am a little amazed at some of the responses on here, its as if people did not realise what would happen if we never got another point and clubs araound us kept winning.

    It looks a good peice of work and I am sorry to be so negative, crack on with it and ignore me, it looks like people need you to explain the season as it unfolds anyway

    I know where you're coming from, but I think a lot of people (myself included) enjoy little devices like this that show the stats in a different way, that's all.

    Could you make the columns wider as the # column was just was a load of ###. A good spreadsheet showing instantly who to look out for if they go on a winning streak.

    As a baseball fan and statto I love this. I tried to work it out myself a couple of weeks ago - glad you have done it for me.

    The countdown I am doing is to see how soon it would be that we could be out of the top 2 - I know, I know, but 40 years of following Charlton promotion campaigns makes me look at the negative side of things!. As of today that 'magic date' is Feb 29th. Once it reaches beyond the end of the season we can celebrate!!
