I would be gutted for any club that went out of business but Pompey just seem to fail time after time, surely these so called "owners" are checked out before they come in.0

Just read some more info on it. Basically the creditors that accepted 20p in the pound last time Pompey went into admin will now not even get that and any subsequent agreement will be based on the new financial situation so if they agreed the same again the creditors would effectively be getting 4p in the pound. That is taking the piss!

I'm good friends with a former Chairman of a local conference side. The way other chairman see it is that it's a form of cheating. Clubs like Pompey attract players and training staff with hefty wages, while they're not paying tax bills etc. I can see both sides and feel for the fans too!0

After going into administration only 2 years ago, you'd have thought that the club would have turned over a new leaf and slashed expenditure, but clearly they (or rather the various owners) clearly didn't. If I was one of the teams that got relegated last season, say Preston who were 3rd bottom, I'd feel that Pompey stayed up through unfair means.0

After going into administration only 2 years ago, you'd have thought that the club would have turned over a new leaf and slashed expenditure, but clearly they (or rather the various owners) clearly didn't. If I was one of the teams that got relegated last season, say Preston who were 3rd bottom, I'd feel that Pompey stayed up through unfair means.
The various Pompey owners and advisors have definitely cocked a snook or six at all and sundry. Even the usually propaganda spouting Steve Claridge, a Pompey boy and ex player has criticised the club for signing players on £20,000 (reportedly) a week contracts AFTER coming through administration.0 -
Best thing that can happen would be an AFC Portsmouth scenario. Fans would still support I think and it would cast off the shadow of the years of mismanagement. Take a few years to get back up there but with the fan base Pompey have I think they could do it.0

I think they will be automatically relegated as one of the three clubs and it will have no effect on promotion in L1 although I suspect one less team will be relegated if Pompey cannot play next season.0

Dunno about that but West Ham have taken 6 points off them this year which would be voided if they go under. Saints have taken only 1 I think which would make things interesting at the top as well. Would be ironic in the extreme if their demise ended up playing a crucial part in getting Southampton promoted. The noises coming out from the adminstrators and the local media down here suggest this is going to be the final straw for them.0 -

It's a horrible situation. Pompey are a famous old club, I've really enjoyed the rivalry we've had with them (do I recall correctly that we've played them more than any other club?) and it would be a crying shame if they went out of business.
The club are victims of a string of unfit owners. Rizzo's absolutely right that if the club cannot be run solvently it shouldn't be run at all, but let's exhaust every avenue of achieving solvency before writing them off.

The current administrators are also bemused as to where all the money has gone as it appears that Pompey own nothing. The stadium, academy and training ground do not belong to them so what are they doing with all the money? And why did the previous administrators not notice this?
Something fishy and to be perfectly honest I actually hope that they get wound up and have to do an AFC Portsmouth to come back, rather than just creating a new company that doesn't have any debt and carrying on as before (which is what Rangers appear to be planning).0 -
A case of be careful what you wish for springs to mind. I live near the south coast and remember the fans gloating about how great it was with the sudden influx of cash and new investors. All the achievements in cups etc are now all undermined by the fact it was our mone paying for this success. As a passionate football fan i can relate to the die hard fans but i would rather they get kicked out of the league and have a successful club like AFC Wimbledon living within their means and progressing that way. Im confident they would still have a very large fan base from the loyal fans rather than the jonny come latelys only interested in premiership big wage mercenaries and cup followers.0

Dunno about that but West Ham have taken 6 points off them this year which would be voided if they go under. Saints have taken only 1 I think which would make things interesting at the top as well. Would be ironic in the extreme if their demise ended up playing a crucial part in getting Southampton promoted. The noises coming out from the adminstrators and the local media down here suggest this is going to be the final straw for them.
