  • Oh dear,I've missed something here,haven't I?
    Yeah, humour.
  • His books are great and most of what he says I agree with. He ran rings around the Question Time panel.
    Will Young?
  • I can't stand him. He's another 'celebrity' who has built a career on the fact that he was at one time a 'junkie'. His novels are derivative rubbishy drivel and how he gets continuous air time on the BBC I do not know .. well I DO know but refrain from commenting as I would be accused of racism by some. On question time this week I believe that he and Will Young were on the panel .. quite, utterly ridiculous. MPs and leaders of industry should be panelists on these supposedly serious programmes and not z list celebrities
Hopefully Jim Davidson will get to appear on Question Time - does he qualify as Z list?

If you truly believe that JD is worthy of a place on the QT panel then you are as silly as a box of frogs .. QT is (or should be) a forum for 'members of the public' to question politicos, captains of industry and (e.g) health care and charity officials etc on their views and performances as representatives of important institutions and certainly NOT a forum for Jim Davidson, Will Selfish or any other ZZZZZZZZlister to spout cheap platitudes to make themselves look good. Will Self saying to a politician 'who are you mystic meg?', the f***ing idiot wants to get back to the playground where he can have a w**k and a smoke behind the bike sheds.

  • Main thing I remember about Will Self is when he was on QT some time last year and he smugly told the audience and the rest of the panel that they didn't know what they were talking about and the reason the Bulger killer had been sent back to jail that week for breaching the terms of his licence was probably for nothing more serious than a speeding ticket or jumping a red light..

  • Sorry, the irony/post modernism eluded me. It was actually funny. Lol,smiley face, etc.
  • Question time has become increasingly ridiculous - stopped taking it seriously about 20 years ago. Pompous ego-fest. At least if JD and Will Self were on it would keep all of CL happy.
Audience members should be free to attack panellists with water pistols if they annoy them.

you are right BUT QT should be a serious programme. There is far too much juvenile frothy rubbish on the telly as it is. There should be a forum for squirting water at politicos etc.. BUT, QT is not that forum. Thing is the BBC and the government has a vested interest in keeping things light and hiding the truth.. if the public knew what was really going on, Dave C, George O, Tony B, 'Lard' mandelson and all the other 'leaders' , movers and shakers would be hanging upside down from the lamposts by their toes
  • Best guest on QT was Martin Dwyer, alias Lt. Col. Kojak Slaphead III (Bald Brummies Against The Big-Footed Conspiracy Party)

  • May come across a bit pompous - but what he said about the railways last night was spot on.

I dislike Right On North London Limp Wristed Champagne Socialist Hyprocites as much as the next man, but this one happens to be very intelligent and extremely entertaining. I might not agree with much that he has to say, but at least there is usually a coherent and logical argument behind it. Unlike many lefties, who just trot out the fashionable right on bullshit that they remember their sociology lecturers drilling into them at university, Self has the intelligence to critically analyse a situation and he often gets right to the crux of it....at least he thinks for himself.

And he did the Geordie Jeans thing on Shooting Stars, so that trumps all of the bollox that I have just spouted.

  • He's South London.
  • He's still a pretentious prick.
  • Was Lt. Col. Kojak Slaphead III really on question time? Or was it just the knowing me knowing you thing?

    Slap of the head!
  • I agree with bigstemarra.
  • My only claim to fame. I was in the audience for the very FIRST question time. School field trip and totally wasted on most of us at the time...

Will Self ? I f$*kin Shit im, intelligence? I ave seen more intelligence in Tony Blair's jock strap !

And Im a feckin socialist (my arris!)
  • Will is actually a funny and considerate man. He comes across on tv as a bit up himself and like a lot of clever men he gets carried away with his own wit sometimes. He genuinely gives a fuck.
  • thanks all, just watched QT on iPlayer - don't see what the fuss is about.
Everything he said was correct, thoughtful and well articulated, even if he was in his dressing gown - I shall finally have to get round to reading the Quantity Theory of Insanity.
Didn't like the woman next to him but the other Will came across quite well
  • But does he ever smile???
  • He is the most punchable bloke I can think of. Clever is one thing, smart arse is another.

Mind you as others have said he was spot on when it came to the railways. I wonder if Labour will ever have the courage to put nationalisation in a manifesto because that would surely win votes!

Then I saw him on the South Bank show, and although there were a few things that I agreed with, I just thought what a sincere cunt. At that time I was seriously unimpressed with Amis, Hitchens and Self. I thought that their morals were skewed and they seemed to sneer at anything outside their little superior club. It still makes me chuckle though the piece about him taking off al the badges on his Volvo, and his hatred of modern marketing/commerce: I have some affinity to that.

Then he went on Shooting Stars, and was clearly mocking the image he had in the press. He's managed to kick his drug addictions, and according to his wife works hard at this and his family life. One of his interests is psychogeography post his addictions. He used to have an article in the Independent talking about this. Psychogeography is something I always enjoyed doing in new cities I've lived in, just I didn't have a name for it, and it's something I admire him for. Whereas the above mentioned Keith Allen, thought taking drugs into his 40's+ and not giving a shit much about his family life was the way to gratify himself, Self had a very hard time trying to improve himself.

Shame that you have to compose a reasonably intelligent article with a couple of swear words, but glad I made you laugh with my unoriginal put down, will just stick to the football threads in future!
