Here's one for all you muso's on here...
When my wife was at university she won a Fender Stratocaster (or however you spell it) guitar signed by Aerosmith in a competition. It's got a Wayne's World 2 plaque on the back of it, so either it was used in the film or is a replica of it. It's never ever been used and has sat in a box in the loft ever since. We're now thinking about selling it but have no idea what it's worth or where the best place to sell it is. Because she won it in a competition she doesn't have any certificates or anything to say it's genuine etc. Ebay is obviously an option but how do you set a minimum bid price if you have no idea what it's worth?!

I own a Korean strat, but I would imagine that is a USA strat, and probably worth a few bob with the Aerosmith/WW stuff. I would ring some guitar shops in town, but also look at film memorabilia sites, or Aerosmith sites, I think ebay you might lose out.0

There are also several other Rock memorabillia auction houses you could try............amongst them Bonhams.

No harm in getting a valuation done now of course (in fact a good idea)....but if, as you say, it's been sitting there for some years doing no harm, I'd hold on a while until the economy picks up before actually selling it.0 -

Well as a guitar yes....but what you have here is 'possibly' a piece of collectable memorabilia.......so you'd need to go to a 'specialist' auction house for that valuation.

Depends on the country of origin and the year it was made if you look up the serial no. It will give you that information. http://www.fender.com/en-GB/support/articles/u-s-instruments-product-dating/

One of the items was Hendix's Astoria strat, which was photographed by me at the bbc in the green room.
It was found in the roadies,(Tappi) garage in a plastic bag......
One of the editors on the news team played it on the bbc news.......
I photoshopped the guitar for a mate of mine's band called the hendrix project.
Here are the pics...... as you can see the Astoria show was jimi's first night on the first uk tour with the Walker brothers and Engelbert......
Although people can own Jimi's guitars, no one can play like him, as messrs Beck, Page and Clapton will testify to.0 -
Are you suggesting Ken that Beck, Page and Clapton tried to play like Hendrix? I'd say there are many people you could point a finger at, but not those esteemed gentlemen. SRV or Robin Trower maybe?0

Actually attended the auction where that Strat was sold (Sept 4th 2008) and held said guitar!!! Also took numerous photos.

Bought an amazing painting of Jimi at that auction by a recognised local (Dartford area I think) Kent artist named James Wilkinson....paid a good few quid for it and I'm hoping it will fetch an even prettier penny someday.

No mate, they did not try and compete?...... As you know I have a very high regard for all of those mentioned, my comment was in regard to the actual guitars and stuff on sale, I think jimi would be laughing to think that people would pay that for one of his guitars...... I am sure you know what Clapton thought of Jimi " my life was never the same again after seeing him on the first occassion at the Regent Poly...... you can buy the equipment, study for years, but sorry, and all that you ain't hendrix, or as beck himself said.......
